I wouldn't have said they were unlucky, France defended very well. Lukaku and De Bruyne were poor tonight.
Been playing golf so only saw last 10 minutes......disappointed it didn't go to extra time.... C'mon England
This is the second time I’ve seen the Italia ‘90 semi-final excerpt and I still maintain, as I did then, that Shilton was over the hill by that match. I wouldn’t lay the blame for our penalty defeat at his door, but he just lacked any sort of agility in that game. For example, look at the lacklustre way in which he tried to keep the wicked Parker deflection out. Watch the penalty shootout itself and he wasn’t really anywhere near any of them. Shame really as he was an England great, of course, but wonder whether a younger keeper would’ve made any difference in that game? Who were the reserve goalies in the squad back then?
Wild celebrations in this quiet French suburb, good for them. I didn’t really follow the game as closely as I wanted to, I certainly won’t be watching tomorrow in this venue, but although France have players that can cause damage, and are playing for each other, I really think it would be 50/50 with our spirit and approach. Plus it is clear no other team can cause as much havoc from the set piece as us. Seemed to me that both teams tried to copy a couple of our routines tonight, but couldn’t deliver, but a compliment that they tried. Glad I have to work tomorrow (and that my hosts will be in a good mood as I present a fairly daunting task to them) it will take my mind off the evening. COME ON ENGLAND!!!!
When have I ever said anything against half & half scarves? I do miss my little conversations with the sellers in Loftus Road. I used to advertise their availability far more than they did!
I was thinking the same. Chris Woods and David Seaman were the second and third goalies. Although Seaman had to go home due to a thumb injury after the first game and was replaced by Dave Beasant.
Have to say, that i was disapointed of that match. France played almost whole match backing their defence and Belgium put de Brune to play like defender insted of putting him to feed Lukaku and Hazard properly. France were much better in the dead ball situations. They were better headers in both end and thats where the goal was coming also. If England beat Croatia french would have a much stronger team to play center passes and dead ball situations.. Hope they go through against akward Croatia tomorrow. Come on England!
I don't think I've seen Lukaku have such a poor game. His running off the ball and positioning were all wrong as was his reading of the game. He was definitely out of sorts. There was a moment in the first half when Hazard crossed low from the left. Lukaku was the only player in the box and just stood there when he should of been running towards the near post. I think the pressure got to De Bruyne after France scored and he rushed his passing. France are fast and powerful and defended like lions.
De Bruyne gave it away lot, but he played one sublime ball towards Lukaku late on and Lukaku just didn't seem to react.
The guy at 00:25 seconds bring back 3 beers and his friends throw them in celebration! Then he will have to qeue all over again
Dave Beasant was on the bench, and I was saying at the time that he should be brought on for the penalties. Shilton was pathetic.
I used to have a shilton video when I was a kid. I remember he talked about his approach to penalties. He would try and react to the kick once taken, rather than gamble on a direction. As uber said, he didn't get close.

It's Waistcoat Wednesday.......... C'mon England Marks & Spencer is running out of Gareth Southgate’s trademark waistcoat prompting anguished protests from England fans. The waistcoat has become a cult fashion item since Southgate began wearing it at the start of England’s run to the world cup semi-final. It even has its own spoof Twitter account with the slogan “Fashion’s Coming Home”. But ahead of “Waistcoat Wednesday” to coincide with the semi-final against Croatia, supporters have found themselves unable to buy the item. It was brillant łów sliced ball that just literally glided into the box. It should have been put away as it was inch perfect. C’est la vie!
