Josh Maja and Bali Mumba are set to stay at Sunderland, Stewart Donald has said. The Black Cats have accepted a bid from Swansea City for the talented Joel Asoro, who now seems certain to leave the club this summer.

Asoro was offered a new deal last year but wishes to move on and Swansea, managed by former Ostersunds boss Graham Potter, are now leading the race.

Like Asoro, Maja has just one year left on his current contract but Donald told supporters that he and Mumba wanted to stay.

Donald said: "They will stay. They want to be Sunderland players."

16-year-old Mumba is one of the best talents in the Sunderland academy and made his senior debut at the end of the last season.

He has been training with the first team during the early stages of pre-season.

Maja, meanwhile, is set to lead the line in the opening pre-season game against Darlington and has a significant opportunity to impress.

The Black Cats are now working hard on striker targets and will make at least one addition in that department this summer.

Donald admitted some fans will be disappointed with Asoro's departure but said that he thought the club had received a fair price.

He wrote on twitter: "I think quite a few will think we could get more for Joel if he goes and some will be in the other camp and think it makes sense. It’s football!!

"If he leaves - Thought I had done quite well with base price. He is a League 1 player with 1 year left. Played half a season. Has potential but so do all young players."

Sunderland are making steady progress on outgoings with the club also weighing up offers for Didier Ndong, Lamine Kone and Papy Djilobodji.

Have to give them game time. No point carrying passengers at this level. Reckon they've done a lot to endear themselves to the fans in making this decision.
