Well done to Croatia - but I now hope for a result similar to that one at Wembley in Sept 2009 when the 3 Lions completely dominated Croatia by if I recall correctly 5-1.
Maybe the Russkies will be on our side now. Nothing to fear from Croatia. People were talking them up a lot after they beat Argentina, but they didn't realise quite how bad Argentina were. We can beat that lot. I fear the 'wally with the brolly' will get a bit of airtime in the next few days.
For the first time in this tournament I'm actually beginning to believe England can win this. They have been lucky in their draw and the fact that teams who could really have tested them either chose to spoil the game and win by cheating (Colombia) or just didn't turn up (Sweden). However you still have to do the job and like most tournament winners it's the team that peaks at the right time that ends up winning the trophy. England are slowly but surely going in the right direction. Croatia are a classic example of a team that came out of the blocks flying with that demolition of Argentina. Since then nothing special. Having not seen Rakitic do anything tonight I did wonder where he had been substituted until he took his penalty. On paper they should win given the quality of the players they have and their collective experience but they no longer look like tournament winners to me.
Had a lovely evening in a couple of pubs and an excellent restaurant with my Portuguese neighbour and his charming wife. I was deeply touched with his concern that we get the ‘easier’ match v Russia (he has lived here a very long time, has no truck with anyone from abroad who lives here and doesn’t have England as their second team at least), despite me telling him that it really doesn’t matter, what will be will be, haven’t seen a thing of Russia v Croatia, but another penalties win makes me feel that the Croats started strong and are fading.
I am glad Croatia won. Not sure who would be easiest (and I never saw it as I've just walked in the door from Hyde Park) but the players staff and all involved didn't need the circus that playing Russia would have involved. I rather think we may have the momentum now. Am stone cold sober as have a tooth infection. Never knew it could be this much fun
Hi. I am from Croatia. Fan QPR since Gerry Francis. I like to see the game with England now. Very difficult. England fast with good strong player. A long game today. With penalties too tired. Hopefully we will be strong again by wenessday!
Croatia were the better team I thought, but it was a struggle for them "playing away" to Russia as it would have been if England had them in the semi-final. Forgetting the reserves game with Belgium, Croatia look like the best team England have come up against so far, but certainly winnable especially if Modric is kept away from our third.
What a day! England reach the semi-finals of the world cup. A great time had by by all in the pub and to top it all off we had a face time call from Harry Kane's girlfriend's dad ( Gary ) who is a mate of a good mate of mine who was with Harry Kane and Jack Butland after the game who both wished us all the best and to keep on supporting England.
