Jordan Henderson's penalty was well struck and directed, it was a fantastic save, and from what I saw he would have been very unlucky to have been blamed if we'd lost that. Then it just needed the other Jordan to do his bit to win it for England. I'm tremendously proud of both Sunderland lads
It was a cracking save and it showed the qualities that make him the top keeper that he is. Fast reflexes to make the save in midair and the wrist of iron to keep it out. Still just a baby in keeping years too, I wonder how far he'll go.
Still think we make poor use of substitutions, Dyer and Vardy were mistakes, but GS got away with it. With 15 minutes of extra time to go I thought we had blown it but Lady Luck is on our side and it feels good. As for their disgraceful behaviour once they realised we were the better team and had the measure of them, its how they play the game, its not cheating in their eyes, so we need VAR whether we like it or not, its the only way to go, they should have been down to 10 men with all that intimidation after the penalty decision and they should not be allowed to get away with it. I say this as a real fan of South American football, butt three minutes of protestation about a decision should not be tolerated. Its great to win of course but the team has four weak links and unless these are adressed we are going to fail, in probably our best chance ever to get into a World Cup Final, and that would be a shame, but not the end of the world. Gareth is doing OK.
Well the last 50 minutes of that game were 7 shades of horrible - we needed to have actually done more to kill them off earlier. On the plus side though we've got a QF in which we are correctly the favourites and if we win then we have a SF in which we will be the highest ranked team and got a genuinely good chance. We've also got a striker who is leading the chase for the golden boot (6 goals) with the alternates being 2 goals behind and either out or probably going out in the next round (Lukaku has 4).
