Some very interesting entries for 11 September at Longchamp, a card that now includes the ‘Moulin’, with three Classic winners in the list. Last year’s Vermeille winner Midday is listed as is last year’s beaten favourite, Sarafina, who is also in the Prix Foy.

Thanks for posting QMII. <ok> The Vermeille definitely looks like the best race at this stage - an absolute cracker if the main protagonists turn up.

Potentially there could be some cracking races. I only listed the four Group 1 and 2 races, but Hungarian ‘wonder horse’ Overdose is entered in the five-furlong Prix Du Petit Couvert and the Prix Gladiateur features 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain (the runner-up is entered in the Moulin).

If Galikova and Goldikova both run, I wonder if that will be the first time that two (half-)sisters have run on the same card.

Looking at the Prix Foy, I think there is a good chance that Sarafina will dodge the Vermeille and take her chance against the boys as the race includes last year’s Arc runner-up and she does not get penalised even though it is a Group 2.

The next forfeit stage is September 7th, so it will be interesting to see who is going where, with Blue Bunting entered even though pacemaker Rumh is allegedly being added to the St Leger the day before so she can run in the final Classic. Are Godolphin hedging their bets in case it comes up soft on Town Moor?

Interesting that Classic winners Misty For Me and Golden Lilac are entered in both the mile and mile-and-a-half races.

so i take it this means sea moon is defo st leger bound as not entered in the prix neil???

golden lilac is almost certain not to go for the vermille, her turn of foot was blunted last time in a slightly more stamina test then in the prix diane.

i hope galikova doesnt have a hard race in the vermille, something similar to what sarafina did last year in taking it easy till the 1 furlong marker than asked for a bit of a effort by the jockey!

Sir Michael Stoute has no entries at all on the Arc Trials card. He said last year that he would not have run Harbinger in the Prix Foy because he thinks it is too close to the Arc.

If Sea Moon wins the St Leger the day before, will Khalid Abdullah want him to attempt the double that has never been achieved or will Stoute be saying that the St Leger is too close to the Arc?

QM ,galikova and goldi both ran on the same card lto at deauville

im antepost on galikova for the arc,was convinced she would win the prix diane ,,so lost faith a bit ,but was a great win last time out.head hasnt put in a pacemaker for her in this i see like he as all season ,so i really am hoping hes int too serious about the prix vermille with her and just using it as a warm up for the arc.the prix vermille can be the most trickiest to determine who is going all out to win it or saving there self for the arc as midday and sarafina proved last year!

Should be interesting races.
So You Think in the Moulin - did AOB enter him in the wrong race or is he trying to do a Cape Blanco???

At the declaration stage, the following have stood their ground for Sunday’s races at Longchamp:

Prix Niel (2400 metres – one and a half miles)

Vadamar (A De Royer Dupre)
King Of Arnor (A Fabre)
Meandre (A Fabre)
Nakayama Knight (Y Ninomiya, Japan)
Colombian (J Gosden)
Seville (A O’Brien)
Reliable Man (A De Royer Dupre)

Interestingly, all of Godolphin’s entries have defected but St Leger entry Seville is still engaged.

Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp (1600 metres, a mile)

Cityscape (R Charlton)
Rajsaman (F Head)
Planteur (E Lellouche)
Rio De La Plata (S Bin Suroor)
Handsome Maestro (R Collet)
Dick Turpin (R Hannon)
Royal Bench (R Collet)
Zoffany (A O’Brien)
Roderic O’Connor (A O’Brien)
Excelebration (M Botti)
Tin Horse (D Guillemin)
Dubawi Gold (R Hannon)
Immortal Verse (R Collet)

Notable that Goldikova is giving this a miss and Godolphin have only left Rio De La Plata engaged. Three-year-old filly Immortal Verse could be the fly in the ointment. Excelebration is heading for Longchamp this Sunday and has been bought by Coolmore; however, no announcement has been made about whether Adam Kirby keeps the ride.

Prix Vermeille (2400 metres, one and a half miles)

Sarafina (A De Royer Dupre)
Sarah Lynx (J Hammond)
Shareta (A De Royer Dupre)
Testosterone (P Bary)
Wavering (A Fabre)
Wonder Of Wonders (A O’Brien)
Galikova (F Head)

Notable defectors here are Sir Henry Cecil’s pair, Midday and Vita Nova, and all the other British entries. Golden Lilac has not retained either of her entries. On paper, this looks like Sarafina versus Galikova.

Prix Foy (2400 metres, one and a half miles)

Lancelot (F Head)
St Nicholas Abbey (A O’Brien)
Windsor Palace (A O’Brien)
Ley Hunter (A Fabre)
Hiruno D’Amour (M Kon, Japan)
Nakayama Festa (Y Ninomiya, Japan)
Sarafina (A De Royer Dupre)

Interesting that Sarafina retains her entry here. Will they think that taking on the older boys is better than the younger girls even though this is a Group 2 and the Vermeille is a Group 1? The race that matters is three weeks away.

Looking in the ‘other’ race entries, Melbourne Cup winner Americain has defected from the Prix Gladiateur but there are five British entries in the Prix Du Petit Couvert, namely Prohibit, Hamish McGonagall, Definightly, Beyond Desire and Above Limits.

Americain is second favourite at 20-1 for the Melbourne Cup.

Rio de la Plata (a horse I really like) has run some really good races at Longchamp. Won G1 as a 2 yo and was only just beaten in the Moulin last year

The running order on Sunday at Longchamp has been given as follows by France Galop (local times are UK plus one hour):

13:30 Prix Du Petit Couvert (1000 metres, 5 furlongs)
14:00 Prix Foy (2400 metres, mile and a half)
14:30 Prix Niel (2400 metres, mile and a half)
15:08 Prix Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club handicap (1400 metres, 7 furlongs)
15:40 Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp (1600 metres, mile)
16:15 Prix Vermeille (2400 metres, mile and a half)
16:50 Qatar Cup (2000 metres, mile and a quarter) Pure Arabians
17:20 Prix Gladiateur (3100 metres, one mile 7.5 furlongs)
17:50 Prix Al Wakra handicap (1400 metres, 7 furlongs)

Final declarations are on Friday but at Thursday’s forfeit stage there have been some very notable changes:

Prix Foy (2400 metres, one and a half miles)

St Nicholas Abbey (A O’Brien)
Hiruno D’Amour (M Kon, Japan)
Nakayama Festa (Y Ninomiya, Japan)
Sarafina (A De Royer Dupre)

They have opted to take on the boys with Sarafina, but St Nicholas Abbey’s pacemaker has dropped out. Will one of the Japanese make the running or is this going to be a sprint in the straight?

Prix Niel (2400 metres – one and a half miles)

Vadamar (A De Royer Dupre)
King Of Arnor (A Fabre)
Meandre (A Fabre)
Nakayama Knight (Y Ninomiya, Japan)
Colombian (J Gosden)
Reliable Man (A De Royer Dupre)

Only Seville has disappeared and we know where he will be this weekend!

Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp (1600 metres, a mile)

Rajsaman (F Head)
Planteur (E Lellouche)
Rio De La Plata (S Bin Suroor)
Handsome Maestro (R Collet)
Royal Bench (R Collet)
Zoffany (A O’Brien)
Roderic O’Connor (A O’Brien)
Excelebration (M Botti)
Tin Horse (D Guillemin)
Dubawi Gold (R Hannon)

Very surprised to see Dick Turpin and Cityscape defect, as well as Immortal Verse. I wonder what the going is actually like at Longchamp.

Prix Vermeille (2400 metres, one and a half miles)

Sarah Lynx (J Hammond)
Shareta (A De Royer Dupre)
Testosterone (P Bary)
Wavering (A Fabre)
Wonder Of Wonders (A O’Brien)
Galikova (F Head)

With Sarafina out of the line up, how short will Galikova be against Testosterone?

Immortal Verse has apparently suffered a minor overreach and will head straight to Ascot.

Zoffany looks like a definite runner, not having been declared for the G2 Park Stakes at Donny on Saturday. This race has assembled the worst field for a G2 race, outside the plodders of the staying division, that I have seen for quite some time.

It wasn't so long ago that owners and trainers were bemoaning the lack of quality opportunities for the mythical beast that is the 7f specialist.

There were no changes to the big race fields for Sunday. In the Prix Du Moulin, Coolmore’s new purchase Excelebration is to be ridden by Jamie Spencer; however, I think the jockey to be following could be Christophe Lemaire as he has some great rides for the Aga Khan as well as Tin Horse in the mile feature.

I cannot understand why Strong Suit is not running this weekend. Hannon took him out of the Prix Du Moulin and he is not in the Park Stakes either. If they want seven furlongs and a Group 1, they can meet Goldikova in the Prix de la Forêt on Arc Sunday.

Saturday’s Doncaster card does not look great but I was not planning on going anyway.

I backed Entifaadha at York but with no front runner in the field and only five going to post I will be giving the Champagne Stakes a miss. Can Zero Money make all on consecutive Saturdays? I bet it will be a poor price in the Portland cavalry charge, which is a race to be avoided. I missed Sud Pacifique when it won at Beverley; it still owes me money from Ascot so I may look at the getting-out stakes.
