DF did play 2 strikers when we were behind late in a match. The main change is no Madders now and a new striker with pace and 'movements' as DF calls it. Murphy up front with Srbeny didn't work, but Pukki just might. That doesn't say he will, but he just might.
Back to transfers again, reactions from Huckerby and Holty to our signing Marshall: "Always liked the look of Marshall, plenty of Championship experience, real quality on the ball and from set pieces." — Darren Huckerby (@hucks6dh6) "Great player and a great guy as well. Good signing this for NCFC." — Grant Holt (@Grantholt31) Pretty good endorsements. Signing Marshall has the bonus of denying Millwall of his services after he was a key player in their surge in the second half of the season. He's also an upgrade on Watkins for virtually the same money.
I am judging him on his price and goal tally . 1 League goal in 25 and over €10m . Some on here clearly believe that was good business
It clearly wasn't good business, but more because we didn't have the players who could provide the service he needed. He's done well wherever else he's played.
I would rather have him back than any of the forwards we have in the current squad , put it that way.
Just seen this tweet which I thought I'd share. Dave Clarke@clarkedp Hearts waiting on Naismith to sort out his contract with #ncfc, ffs just rip the thing up and walk away, you’ve already bled this club for more than £6m in wages and achieved nothing in return. You said you’d play in Scotland for free, we’ll now is your chance, go!
Oliveria set to leave if we get a decent bid for him. If he leaves then will we go for Rhodes (loan) or Marriott? Pukki not a big lad, so looks like he will not be playing as a lone striker, so we could go for a big unit for a one-up-front scenario.
Whilst I certainly wouldn't be against it as a Plan B, I don't think this is the way Farke wants to use his strikers. To wholly generalise, that big unit striker is important when you want a quick out-ball when under pressure, and obviously to get on the end of crosses. Farke wants his team to build from the back, with patient passing. The strikers movement to create opportunities to receive passes in dangerous areas is then more important than aerial ability. So Pukki might play as a lone striker, even if he doesn't have the traditional qualities. If we want to go longer, Srbeny and Morris can do a job on their own. So I would think any other striker brought in would be competition for Pukki to play in Farke's Plan A.
On the evidence of last season, Srbeny doesn’t look like he is going to become a 15 goal a season player. Hopefully, Pukki will be but I don’t think there are many fans who are confident that either striker will give us the goals we sadly lacked last season. I would like to see two strikers playing but not sure how Farke will utilise his strikers. We might get a clue from pre-season games?
Spot on, DH. This is why CJ wasn't a good fit under Farke. Pukki is an on the shoulder of the defender sort of striker who with the wide players or WBs will seek to take crosses, deep passes from Vrancic or through balls from Leitner or McLean so he can use his pace and movement to get behind the defence and score. Marriott is similar, but it's harder to see Rhodes or a 'big unit' fitting that approach unless we're chasing a game and need to get the ball up quickly, which may be Srbeny's role coming on as sub with or without Pukki.
