Nothing wrong with being a selling club but the successful ones are those that buy cheap develop & sell at top prices to re-invest. In our case selling Smithies at 3-4m is not a good deal particularly when need a minimum 2 defenders + a striker who can score consistently at champ level & 3-4m isn't going to get us much.
I know what ya mean, but 20 goals a season strikers are pretty hard to come by...especially on our budget!
If we can gain a couple of 8-10 goals a season strikers, l wonder whether that would fit our budget. One would hope that with his contracts, McClaren could find some along the lines. Very interested to hear his view on things.
Don't think you were too far off. He's a lump and I can't stand that type of player (or him). An aggressive, shorter Smith with no more skill and wouldn't manage a better conversion rate than Smith did last season (especially for goals per min). Wouldn't be a good marker for our aspiration for entertaining football if that fat hacker is what we bring in. Please be paper talk. I suspect (hope) it is.
I’m not very familiar with him, but this makes him sound like the poor man’s Grant Holt. May God have mercy on our souls. Whatever happens in this window, presumably McClaren has convinced Les that he can do better than Holloway with the same or even less material. Joachim Löw might be available soon.
Robinson might go to Forest...that will be a kick in the teeth However they have magically real money (they were under a transfer embargo a few seasons back!!!! due to FFP!!!) and are trying to do a Wolves and already have 2 Benfica players signed up
There are always some players that gel with managers who have a knack of getting the best out of them. Hopefully the Martin - McClaren history will repeat itself and we end up with a striker than get hit the magical 20 goals in a season. Smithies - we undersold you however I do hope you get the chance to play in Premiership regularly
According to sky sports we have signed Joe Felix after his release from Foolham, he’s initially signed for the under 23 squad. Anybody know anything about him?
It appears things ARE Being done, and done under the radar. So far a young right back and a big centre half, and not a midfielder in sight !!!
on newsnow: QPR are exploring the possibility of a loan move for West Ham United striker Jordan Hugill, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon. The 26-year-old joined the Hammers in January from Preston North End for £10 million but played just three games for them in the Premier League. West Ham are keen to offload Hugill this summer and he is the subject of interest from Championship side QPR. Their new manager, Steve McClaren, is keen to bolster his side over the summer and has identified Hugill as a top target. Prior to making the move to the top flight, Hugill had managed 23 Championship goals in three seasons with Preston and eyebrows were raised when he made the move to West Ham. He started his career in non-league and worked his way up the football pyramid. Hugill had stints at Marske United, Seaham Red Star, Consett, Jerez Industrial and Whitby Town before he was snapped up by Port Vale in 2013. Hugill spent a season with Port Vale and scored 5 goals in 24 appearances for them in League One before spending the rest of the campaign on loan at Gateshead. He managed 5 goals in 7 games in the Conference (now National League) with them and this earned him a move to Preston in June 2014. He turned out to be an inspired signing by Preston and they made a hefty profit on him. Hugill has proven that he can score goals at Championship level and will be looking to get his career back on track this summer. He would be a decent signing for QPR.
