Have I missed the discussion about Jack Robinson definitely leaving after refusing a new contract? I know this was assumed to be the eventual outcome but I only just saw a feed confirming a couple of days ago. Based on last season this is as important as Smithies leaving to me.
Yes, I think he's as big a loss as Smithies, and it's hugely disappointing, but sadly inevitable. Robinson was signed in the Redknapp days, and would have been on a sizeable wage, which we can no longer afford (we could never afford these contracts really, but in those days we paid them anyway). We would have been asking him to take a wage cut to stay with us, when he could probably sign for a bottom-half Premiership team on increased wages.
I am terrified that the break up of the mighty squad which achieved back to back 18th and 16th finishing positions in the Championship is underway. The good times could be coming to an end.
You are rightly worried that our glorious teams mighty and nonyielding rise up the league...to a definate 14th in 2019 and 12th in 2020 might be thwarted Stan.. You are right we were GUARANTEED a playoff place in 2023. It is a Rollercoaster as someone we know might say
We have been losing our best players for season after season now and not replacing them adequately. Our position near the bottom of the Championship reflects this. We need to bring in some experienced quality players to blend in with the promising youngsters to challenge at the top.
We pretty much knew he was leaving. So it has had less impact. We also knew Smithies was a likely loss, tempered by our second/third ‘keepers being able to step up - but definitely soured by the fee we seem to have received being so low. More important to us now is where are the replacements coming from for the defensive spine of the team. It’s so important for the centre backs to work tightly together and we are going to have a new pairing there - surely we need these positions tied down by the season start or we are going to have a very nervous backline.
Depends where you look from. 18th in the Championship is heady stuff for those struggling in League 1. We could be there the season after next if Mclaren doesn't replace the talent we're losing. And with no funds to speak of, it would be a struggle for us to climb out
Don’t mind the guy leaving for money. He had one season in four. 42 games in four years so it’s a risk for Forest or whoever pays him the big wedge he’ll command. Lots of teams rolling the dice and only three can go up. I’d rather take our chances with a tighter, younger group.
They must be offering him stupid money.... They were borderline breaking ffp 2 years ago and can't see how they can avoid it now if they're paying him and others daft wages....
Robinson is joining Forest - WTF? Didn't he have delusions of PL football - shows he's just a mercenary like a lot of modern day footballers. Where have Florist suddenly got money from? Weren't they under some form of transfer embargo for breaching FFP. Trying to do a Wolves, hope this bites them on the arse and they fall foul of FFP again.....this is becoming a ****in joke of a league, and FFP is a joke too, too many teams trying like hell to buy themselves out, some clubs are going to end up in serious trouble (like ourselves... )
Didn't forest have loses of £21m during 2016/17? The limit is £33 m over 3 years so ffp should be an issue..... Looks like the **** or bust route.....
He’s been sold a promise which is odds on to be broken. Our FFP situation is different, as we incurred to costs which led to FFP - massive salaries which we had to pay in the Championship after being relegated - while in the PL, and our argument was that this was essential to be competitive in the top league (even though of course, we weren’t competitive). These ****ers are deliberately risking the futures of their clubs by betting that not only will they be promoted, they will never be relegated. The alternatives are some better version of FFP, which actually does provide a more level playing field, or scrapping it entirely, which means more clubs will gamble madly, most will fail and owners will lose interest, leaving them in administration. It is even more essential than ever than we win away at Florists this season.
