He's still under contract but so is the tea lady... Seriously though, he's a handfull for defenders but needs to fit into the right tactical plan. He should have been ideal for us with the concept of majority possession being unimportant, but using the ball quickly when you've got it. He's strong and can hold the ball up to bring others into play. It depends on what Lee Johnson wants - if it's another Diedhou type then he would fit the bill - if you're looking to play it on the floor, then not.
Yes but I'm concerned now that Peterborough are aware how much money we have received in the last two days we may have to pay over the odds for him
Of the reported "£17M" you've received for Flint and Reid (though not necessarily all up front), how much do you think Johnson would get to spend?
add the £2.5m from Magnusson going to CSKA, that's nearly £20m we've recieved, will they spent it wisely ?, well I bloody hope so
I'd be happy with Marriott personally. He has all the attributes to be a like-for-like replacement, is a couple of years younger and gives us a hefty profit. We can say that we need a player like Reid, but at the start of last season we had no idea Reid was going to perform as he did. It's only with retrospect that we can say we 'need' him, we didn't know we needed him a year ago!
Unfortunately 20 mill doesn't seem to go far these days and unless we take major gambles on lower league players, we're not likely to improve ourselves by these 3 going. Is Bryan next? Personally I think Cardiff is a good move for Reid...relatively close to home and he'll actually have a chance to get playing time. Hope he's a success. It was time for him to spread his wings.
Right then Agent Reid - your mission (should you choose to accept it), with the help of Agent Cunningham is............ 1. Remove £10m from Cardiff and Warnock so they have less to spend on other players. ✅
Think we're about done on spending now. A couple loanees should see the squad complete. Mention of found Windass for £3M keeps cropping up though.
We are where we are the Rob , the fact is to improve , or stay the same as last season ,we need someone at least of the same standard Reid was last season . There in lies the problem , I don’t think anyone of that standard would join us.
No chance Vydra will join us , I don’t have enough knowledge of other players to suggest alternatives and am well aware anybody of suitable ability would be very unlikely to want to join us , we’ll see what develops over the coming weeks
Apart from the chance to get Premiership football and to be relatively close to home, why was Bobby so keen to leave? The supposed incoming potential hasn't really materialized and the clock is ticking, so let's hope nobody is itching to spend the new revenue in a reckless and ill informed manner. I have this awful feeling we could be scratching our heads, and possibly arses, to have any better idea as to how City will perform next season. I can't say I have seen anything about our off-season that sets my thought processes alight with anticipation, rather like the January transfer window that was going to set us up to be competitive for the remainder of that season, but as we know it did not happen. England expects.
Vydra's wages would be an issue I suspect. Warnock is building a very strong Championship side there now!!
He sure is Supcon. Strange as it may seem, he understands that playing Championship football in the Premier League is our best chance of staying up. Faffing about with the big boys at their own game (and those that aspire to be like them) is going to get us relegated. Half a dozen teams perenially in the bottom half of the Prem are our target - get three of them below us and we'll be OK. All you lot have got to do is do the same in your division - we won't be holding our breaths.
We haven't had a proven goal scorer since being in the championship yet arguably each year we've had the best striker in the league. Kodjia, Tammy and Reid. As has been pointed out, Diedhiou, had he been fit, would have likely surpassed Reid for goals, people are overlooking the fact we have him. He'll bang in 20+ next season if he doesn't get a freak injury again. Marriott signing would be the icing on the cake though, if he were to come up with us and score 20+ goals in the league next season we'd have a 20 million pound man on our hands. As for Bobby Reid? **** the ****.
I think Marriott could be the same standard. Might not be as hard working but think Tony Thorpe and that’s the type of player Marriott is, a goal poacher. Maybe RR was correct all along and Taylor makes it then we’ve got a great forward lineup. Hopefully Freddie Hinds pushes on as well. Be cheerful, it’s the summer we’ve not gone up or down the table this past month and unbeaten since May
Maybe, I think he knows the chances of you staying up are slim to none and he doesn't want to buy a bunch of big time charlies that will want exorbitant wages and fees and then bugger off when the inevitable happens, as they're too good to go down. Cunningham, Smithies, Murphy and Reid are good young(ish) players who probably won't keep you up, but equally wont want out if you drop, which will see you well set for a good year back in the Championship. This isn't a dig, it's actually the smart move, it's what WBA did in their yoyo years and served them well for a long run in the Prem.
I didn't take it as a dig - just a comment experessing a point of view. As far as it goes, Cardiff are 11/10 not to be relegated and I'm having a few bob on it - in fact quite a few bob when I can get up the courage. If you want a wager on someone to go down, have a few bob on Fulham. They'll try to play the same way as they did in the Championship this year and IMO will come unstuck taking on vastly superior teams that way and play into their hands. Even existing bottom half Prem clubs will have enough ability coupled with Prem experience to meet that sort of challenge from a newbie.
