Sell Forster, sign Gunn and loan Lewis out again is what I would do. I have no idea who the u23 goalkeeper would be in this scenario though so we may have to sign one of those unless I am missing someone. I know we signed Jack Rose as we didn't have one, but I believe he is out of contract now.

 

Just a note on Frasers 'magnificent' clean sheet run when he returned from injury - he only faced shots on target in one of those games, against Arsenal. The other games against Watford, WBA, Man U, West Ham & Swansea he faced a grand total of 0 shots on target.

Also, it's odd how his poor performances before his injury have been whitewashed, it was arguably when he was it his best for us but there was still a number of errors and lucky escapes for him. His flaws have always been there, he can't move his feet, he can't dominate his box, he can't kick a ball accurately (it was only at Celtic when he realised he was actually left footed) and he can't get down quickly. His only strength as a keeper is his size, which he doesn't use nearly enough, and his reflex saves (providing the ball is above a certain height and within arms reach).

 

I struggle to feel sorry for anyone on £70k a week.

 

Money always helps in difficult times. No argument there, but he is a sportsman and I feel for him in that sense.

Fraser Forster - signed by Ron Koeman, to replace Boruc.

After leaving Saints for Everton, Ron came back for Stekelenberg, who remains the least convincing keeper I have ever seen at Saints including that time an outfield player (David McGoldrick, was it?) went in goal.

Ron's judgement of a keeper's ability perhaps tells it's own story.

My view is that it is not quite as simple as good/not good. I think the preferred pattern of goalkeepers has changed in recent years, to the extent that many more teams are looking for a real ball-playing keeper rather than someone who stays at home. Fraser falls firmly into the second category and even when he was performing really well, I always found myself urging him to race off his line more often.
In the past, genuine sweeper-keepers were a rarity and often seen as being prone to catastrophic errors. However there is a lot of logic in having them, especially against pacy counter-attacking sides. These days it's much more common to see the keeper patrolling the edge of the penalty area, when his team is in possession, rather than back in his own goal area.

Sky Sports News understands Southamptonare prepared to listen to offers for goalkeeper Fraser Forster this summer.

The former England international, who signed a five-year contract last summer, endured a difficult season and has not played for the club since Boxing Day.

His team-mate Alex McCarthy signed a new contract at St Mary’s yesterday and Hughes is planning for life without Forster.

But Southampton are seeking competition for McCarthy, and have turned their attention to Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who spent last season on loan with Norwich in the Championship.

Just seen that apparently Man City want Ben Foster as Ederson's backup. Reckon we can just say Forster wrong and see if they notice?
