We don't do main threads for new signings now? this is like the first season ever. That's very sad for the board like. Ne wonder I barely bother now. The whole SAFC world just seems way more enthusiastic about our future than this place. Such a shame the board has become so **** we don't even celebrate signings any more.
Sandy McLaughlan wasn't a bad keeper. Small but very agile, he was a joy to watch as he flew through the air between the posts. What did for him was a game on New years day when he let five (?) in, apparently because he was a bit poorly due to the night before. Ian McColl, then Manager and a fellow Scot was not amused so he promoted our young reserve keeper to first team duties.
I was at that match Poly, and the hangover he took into that game was his undoing, I'm sure it was West Brom we played that day and yes for his size he wasn't a bad keeper just liked his booze too much like a few others those days.
Was the young keeper Forster? He was pretty good but a bit on the small side too if I remember correctly
Young lad with the same surname as some old general. Did a bit of good work on an afternoon in May 1973
A bit of good work, eh ? Is it David Harvey . . . . he did a bit of good work, to keep it down to one
Likewise mate! It’s so hard to gauge what we are doing and bringing in as we’ve no idea about this level. Gonna be an education watching the first game ain’t it!
Just reading through this thread (hadn't really spotted it there at the top!). Love Bamburgh castle, got a painting of it up on the wall in my study. I'm on book 5 of those "Song of the Sword" and got to say they aren't usually my sort of thing but (as you could guess by me being on book 5) I really enjoyed them. First 2-3 were the best and it's been a while since I paused on them (6 months+) but I always end up getting sidetracked into going and researching a bit into the actually history behind them too. I'm from Whitley Bay originally and always say I'm from Northumberland rather than Newcastle as I simply LOVE the place (I also love Newcastle but it's very different, plus I live elsewhere in the country and people have an idea of Newcastle and seemingly some odd ideas that Northumberland either doesn't exist - isn't that Scotland? - or is a barren wasteland).
I live in Hertfordshire. A lot of people haven't got a clue what the north-east is really like at all. They would be amazed to find out Northumberland is much nicer than their pointless little county.
Absolutely - maybe the "unknown quantity" element is more exciting! I'm actually looking forward to the season
Sunderland hold talks with Manchester United's Cameron Borthwick-Jackson please log in to view this image Ramires of Chelsea battles for the ball with Cameron Borthwick-Jackson of Manchester United during the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford... Sunderland need a new left-back this summer, and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson could be the latest Manchester United youngster to join them, with the Premier League giants apparently willing to loan him. According to the Mirror, the Black Cats are keen to get a number of their highest-earning players off the wage bill and have therefore told Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo to follow Jack Rodwell out of the exit door, but who will come in to replace the former Everton man? All the signs are pointing to Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. Reports emerged last week that Sunderland wanted to sign the highly-rated 21-year-old, with Manchester United willing to loan him out once again this summer after he spent the last two seasons at Wolves and Leeds United, and it seems that a move to the Stadium of Light is now a step closer. The Sunderland Echo reports that the Black Cats are hopeful of a breakthrough in a number of transfer deals over the next few days, and it is understood that they have held talks with Borthwick-Jackson about a potential move to League One. It is not yet clear whether or not the player wants to make the move, or whether Manchester United would be willing to let him drop down as far as League One, but the excellent relationship between the two clubs appears to make a deal more likely. A vast number of players have swapped United for Sunderland in recent years, including John O’Shea, Kieran Richardson, Paddy McNair and Donald Love.
Since when have we had an excellent relationship with Utd? I thought our celebrating when they lost out to City for the title at place had buggered all that up? According to the mirror....... well whup-de do Sherlock. That's a hell of a scoop there. Just another piece of lazy not-in-the-know, got to fill some column inches, journalism from the Mirror.
And the one we have had on loan invariably returned as much better players. Bardsley, Simpson, Evans, Campbell, Wellbeck , and that's just the ones I can remember. (Sorry. That should be MOSTLY rather than invariably. I've just remembered Januzaj.)

The rest of MU were quite happy that we had been the only team in the Prem, that season to take four points off City. Had MU themselves managed that, then they would have been champions. This is the sort of thing that sports people notice so, naturally it would have bypassed 'the grate man'.
