Staggers me every week seeing Simpson getting caught out because he cannot tackle or cross and often gets caught out positionally.
Clearly, this Santon guy might make this thread redundant but loads of guys can run up and down the line all day/track back ........remember Carr?........doesn't make them either good defenders or much use in open play.
Me, if we don't sign LB , then I'd put Santon there and Raylor RB. He adds so much to the play in terms of passing and dead balls that in my mind puts him streets ahead of Simpson.

Hypnosis would be a decent second skill to have. Hypnotise the other teams forward line/winger and you have to think we would win most games!!!

I think Simpson has issues to sort with his game at present. Getting raped all night by a league 1 winger can not have done him any good. Saying that he has been part of a very solid defence so must be doing some things right. I still think he can get the defensive side right, its just the other part of his game I worry about. He lacks class and the ability of a natural footballer. He's quick enough but his distribution is very average.

In an ideal world Santon will be right, with Cissokho left. Somebody slap me and bring me back down to earth.

He's got no issues at all that can't be coached out of him, all he needs is for someone to coach him into keeping his position rather than drifting inside, and learning to close down his man and make the occasional tackle. I'm all for staying on your feet to not get done, but Simpson tends to basically usher his opposite man into the area to let them shoot or cross which is frankly terrible defending. I wouldn't even mind if he conceded the odd foul, as long as he made sure it was outside the box. He's not ****, he just doesn't seem interested in improving a side of his game thats obvious from the crowd, surely one of our coaches has seen it?

He covers really well for the rest of the defence but he makes up for it by being crap at closing down etc
