Grant will surely be club captain next year? Experienced, talented beyond that level, hard working and passionate about the club. The word captain might mean something more than the bloke who plays **** but "organises" our woeful back four or throws rocks at cars on a night out with ****ing bentdner.
Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko Preston. Sunderland. Poss move for Tommy Spurr if terms can be done. Oldham also interested.

McLaughlin had received lucrative offers from both Azerbaijan and Cyprus as he weighed up his options, but former St Mirren boss Ross’ plans for the Black Cats were enough to seal the deal. The ex-Hearts keeper admits that Scotland boss Alex McLeish was a key factor in his decision to move south of the border. McLaughlin won his first cap for Scotland against Mexico and he’s keen to keep grabbing the attention of McLeish in his performances while on club duty. He’ll be hoping to state his claim for a start when Scotland head into the Nations League later this year.
Is this happening as far as anyone knows? Think he'd be fantastic in that league and he's a local (and I absolutely agree about the captaincy)

https://www.safc.com/news/team-news...underland?gamp=true&__twitter_impression=true Sunderland AFC have completed the signing of Scotland international goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin. The 30-year-old free agent has signed a two-year deal and becomes Jack Ross’ second summer signing, arriving with a wealth of experience within the Football League and beyond. Born in Edinburgh, the in-demand stopper enjoyed a standout 2017-18 campaign with Scottish Premiership outfit Heart of Midlothian, and this led to his international debut in May 2018. McLaughlin rejected the opportunity to extend his stay at Tynecastle, opting to return to the Football League and join Ross’ squad. Speaking about the goalkeeper’s arrival, the Sunderland manager said: “Jon was in Scotland last season, but he’s spent the rest of his career in England and played in successful teams in this division. “He’s a really good signing for us because he will bring security and stability to that position, as well as experience to the team, and play a key role moving forward. “He’s a safe pair of hands.” The goalkeeper started his career with Harrogate Railway Athletic and Harrogate Town before signing for Bradford City and making 145 appearances for the Bantams during a six-year spell. During his time at Valley Parade, McLaughlin played a pivotal role as the Bantams won the Sky Bet League Two play-offs and reached the 2013 EFL Cup final. He joined Burton Albion in 2014 and was part of the side that earned back-to-back promotions, winning Sky Bet League Two in 2014-15 before finishing as runners-up one season later to reach the Sky Bet Championship. McLaughlin was singled out for his efforts during the latter campaign and was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year for 2015-16.
We had another Scottish keeper called McLaughlan who played in goal for us in the mid sixties. Sandy wasn't very tall and had his limitations hope this guy is a lot better, sounds a good steady signing.
Two more North-East deals on the verge of being announced - McNair to #Boro and Maguire to #SAFC. Both players have successfully undergone medicals.
More of a creator than a goalscorer apparently. Did well at Oxford (therefore Donald probably knows a bit about him) before a crap season at Bury. Seems fair enough to me.
