Jason Steele is on the brink of leaving Sunderland for Brighton, but talks on Wahbi Khazri’s future are likely to be delayed until his World Cup participation is over. The Tunisian seems certain to leave the Black Cats this summer, with a queue of clubs interested. Turkish side Besiktas have been monitoring his availability all summer and reports have suggested that they will soon step up their interest in the 27-year-old. However, Khazri himself has made clear that he will not be distracted from his nation’s fortunes in Russia. Tunisia face a tough battle to get out of the group stages after a 2-1 defeat to England on Monday night. They are next in action against Belgium on Saturday before facing Panama next Thursday. Khazri’s departure may take a little longer but a number of players, including Steele, are likely to leave soon and the Black Cats are hoping to add four players before the start of pre-season. Chairman Stewart Donald wrote on twitter: “We have four [deals] very close. “1 CB 1 CM 2 Forwards. Contract done on 1 and the other 3 very close. “Hoping they will be in over next few days and a few players likely to go the other way. “Thursday I will update in more detail.” The Black Cats are close to closing a deal for a centre-back, which would be a welcome boost for Jack Ross after John O’Shea and Marc Wilson were released earlier this summer. AFC Wimbledon striker Lyle Taylor is a target for Ross, but the former Partick Thistle and Falkirk man has a number of suitors as his contract comes to end. He has been a regular scorer in the lower leagues since joining the Dons in 2015, with 44 goals in 131 appearances. Sunderland will discover their first League One opponents today when the fixtures for the upcoming season are released. Manager Jack Ross says it will be a moment when reality hits home and admits it is a ‘new challenge’ for the Black Cats. “Whatever comes will be exciting for me,” said the Scot. “It’s a totally new challenge, but as a whole club we have to understand we’re a League One club, and that becomes a reality when the fixtures come out. “There’s probably a freshness with that, though, and although it’s not where the supporters ideally want to be right now, they will be going to stadiums they’ve not been to before. “In terms of who or where, I’m not bothered where we go because we have to play every team twice at some stage.” Ross will meet his squad for the first time when they report for pre-season training next Wednesday. The new League One campaign kicks off on Saturday, August 4.

Depends how our owner wants to pay him. We could use this seasons transfer fees and para payment to get him out early. We could use the new investors cash to pay him off early, or we could just let the paras pay him over the set time. Lot of money going to be kicking about the club so at a guess it could be decided around our plans/projections for each season.

N'Dong is owed to Ellis. Something about how Ellis valued him at 8m and Don laughed and said we'll figure that out when he's sold.

Maybe 30% of player sales will go to player wages and transfer fees. The rest I presume will go to paying off short.

We 100% won't be spending more than 5m on players this year. I'd be surprised if we spend 3m. Donald is really putting a business in place.

Yeah revenue will go up 30% so we'll likely look to spend that.

We need 2 goal keepers for starters and a striker, I gave Ross until the season ticket deadline to get players in (so I would renew my card)but he did not so yet again a bad start for a new owner, now this £10 m legal fee crops up. them players should have went weeks ago.

Good news you'll be staying away this year. Maybe have a clean break and just take up golf or tiddly winks in your spare time.

Maybe some people are sick of false dawns? Or don't have the money?

I'm sick of his false dawns. I'm leaving. Hello I'm back. I hate Sunderland. Sunderland are amazing. Our new manager is amazing. Sack him, get ancelotti in.

    He's full of ****.

If you're slating the new management, the new owners and the new playing staff at this point it's clear you can take no excitement from supporting Sunderland and would be far better off joining your local dominoes club.

If ever there has been cause for positivity it's our new transparent and enthusiastic owners, our talented, well regarded young manager and an overhaul of the playing staff that have let us down in recent years.

If people can't get excited about that they probably shouldn't be football fans. The club are better off without that toxicity.

Khazri hoping for a move to the Premier League.

That's the best case scenario for us. Means we'll get a good fee and won't have to subsidise his wages to leave.

Seriously Steve - Monty987 has, over and over again, complained about things and set deadlines for the club to renew his season ticket. He then says "I won't get one" then posts half way through the season (only after a loss, never after a positive performance I may add), to say that he got his season card and is sitting in his usual place and is sick of the regime/manager and wants Ancelotti employed as manager or he "won't go back" and then he posts 3 weeks later saying he did go back and goes over the same ****e!!

I'm all for giving people a chance but Christ that bloke is one of the most negative posters this board has seen and always puts up this sort of stuff!

He claims he can afford it but won't renew if criteria x, y or z are not met!!

He's a ****wit who I'd rather not have in the ground to be honest (if he really is a SAFC fan). To pour scorn on the club at a time when things are actually looking a little positive is something we don't need

    Marcus,
I've chosen to ignore Monty's threads or comments since he began posting.
I've rarely if ever responded to his innane comments and how he runs the club down at almost every opportunity.
I don't let him get under my skin and there are plenty decent posters on here I can respond too and have decent banter/comments with without involving myself with him and just wonder why so many on here actually comment on his threads as to me it's just an utter waste of time.
    Opinions eh...

In other words... People have taken what they find with Monty for years and don't need a Steve quizzing them on Monty now just cause Steve is naive to Monty.

    There, line drawn, sorted <ok><laugh>
