Croatia have a bunch of very talented midfielders and a great work ethic throughout the side. They've also got something very important that Argentina don't have - a plan.
Think it's a combination of both, to be honest. Croatia were quite a few people's dark horses for the tournament. Modric, Rakitic, Brozovic, Mandzukic and Perisic are all top players who have played/are playing at huge clubs. Then you've got the likes of Kovacic, Badelj and Kramaric on the bench. Crazy to think that an Argentina team with Messi, Higuain, Aguero, di Maria and Dybala in their squad would struggle for goals. Then again, whilst they have an embarrassment of riches in their front line, their midfield does not look all that impressive.

What always amazes me about Modric is when he’s in an extremely tight 50/50 ball winning situation and is usually half the size of his opponent, yet somehow he not only wins the ball, but also manages to create something with a perfectly weighted touch. And he does it time and time again. It’s incredible.
