Jersey - well done for applying to University. We need lots of bright young things like you to try to make the world a better place in the future. :emoticon-0100-smile

As an (ex) university lecturer I would have loved to have seen some of the suggestions on here on an application!! Haha!

On personal statements just keep it simple. Say what you want to study, what you like about the subject(s) you have chosen, why you think this is right for you, with examples from academic areas and outside of school as evidence of your potential. Mention transferable skills like teamwork and problem solving gained through school societies, clubs or work experience etc and, briefly, outline your hobbies and interests.

If you are applying to Newcastle University don't mention being a Sunderland supporter. :emoticon-0110-tongu

Also make sure you ask your tutor from school to read and help you refine your PS before you send it off. Also have you looked at the Student room website here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/Writing_Your_Personal_Statement and here for examples: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/Personal_Statement_Library

But remember DO NOT copy anything verbatim from these sites.

Let us know how you get on. Best of luck.:emoticon-0148-yes:

I aint much help here mate, unless you want sarcastic comments (and to honest, who doesn't? They're great <ok>)

You'll be alright, the worst that happens is they tell you to **** off, so you have to get a job and pay taxes.

Don't forget a 50 quid note stapled to the form can't do any harm either.

Well I wish you all the best. Durham is a great University and if you get accepted you will love it. Get to see the lads all the time too. I promise you if you come to the North East you will never want to leave! Better get yourself a job as a football agent, or a scout for Sunderland, working in countries where you speak the language. Or become an interpreter for all the foreign players, help them get settled in. That didn't do Mourinho and Villas-Boas any harm!

If you're going to Durham BruceysBeak will be straight home to look after you. <ok>

I hear you can now get a degree based on course work concerning.."Students! Are they leeches on society." or "Harry Potter!"

Don't forget bonny lad if you don't get into university, you could always get a proper ****ing job. <ok>

Yes I found it when I was looking for advice for my son (so he didn't feel pressured by me!) when he was writing his PS. He managed to get on the course he wanted at the university he wanted even though he only got BBB and they originally said he needed AAB. Mind that was 3 years ago, I imagine he would have struggled this year.

I suggest you try to convey your enthusiasm for the subject but since its Durham i would make sure that your grammer is correct and that there are no spelling mistakes..is it the back of the ucas form that you are filling in for your statement or are you adding an extra folio...if its just the ucas form i would suggest you get someone to type it for you.....it would only cost a few quid and looks much neater anyway good look but remember its tough to get into Durham it does help though if you have a silver spoon .............so good luck and i wish you well
