What Echo report? They know less about what goes on at the club than you or I do. They resort to interviewing ex-players and ex-managers wo have no inside knowledge whatsoever. Any suggestion that Saints are only just starting to think about transfers is utterly ridiculous. Most of our players get tracked over several seasons. The surprise ones are perhaps the ones like Sadio who are looking for a shop window in the Premier League and a mutual short term spell at the club suits both parties.

to be fair, mopo2 who apparently understood the player, never played a system that suited the player. under hughes we started to play the system that would suit Carillo but i think he never played one minute under hughes. i like the look of the player and think he will do well next season if given a chance, but i think its Charlie, then Gabbi and then Carillo at the ,oment

 

I'm hoping Carrillo comes good, because he is under contract and may yet be needed as I can't see us signing a plethora of players. Lots of players struggle in their first season, but it is concerning that he couldn't force his way into a team struggling for goals...especially one managed by someone who knew him. Another concern is his failure to convince Hughes of his talents....but that may possibly be that he was too big a risk in a team fighting for their lives....a fit Charlie Austin was more the player needed to provide some distraction for opposition defenders. We will have to wait and see...but I hope that he has immediate success if he is used, because he has all the signs of being the next fall guy....and that is tough for any player trying to find his feet.

On the other hand he may be sold and another striker brought in.

 

Any options not considered here?!

 

Basically I was being positive because we may have to play him and I have sympathy with almost everybody....but I would be happy if we horse-traded him.

My concern is that the board thinks we have better players than we do so the gaping holes in the squad wont be addrsssed.

For example Hoedt Stephens Yoshida Bednarek are not good enough as a CB group in this league. You can perm one or two of them with a new quality CB but if we go with the current 4 it will be fail again.

 

As I predicted, looks like Jay is going back to Burnley. Strange old game, ain't it?

I'm pretty sure that the board has a good idea of our needs, but they also have an even better idea of our means. There is a finite amount of money and, like any ordinary household, they have other bills to pay and the desire to keep some back for a rainy day. I want the board to be reasonably cautious...we have seen what can happen when you are not....the question is are they being too cautious. We don't know the answer to that without knowing the thoughts of Gao.

I can accept that the well spring may be a little dry, because given a free hand I am pretty sure the board would love to spend, spend , spend. Why wouldn't they...makes life easier to clear out players at a loss and buy expensive ones in. But they are under instruction and restrictions from above.

What is important is to make the right hirings and firings on our budget. Big clubs make expensive mistakes and write them off...clubs like ours have to get them right. We have made mistakes in the past....this summer, every player must count and be the right one.
