One thing about McLaren is I have a feeling he is an honest sort of bloke (like Ollie)...no side to him like Arry, Warnock or Sparky
He cares about football....I have a naive thought that he wants to come to us to make a team that does well. Of course he likes to be employed, he likes being paid...but underneath it, he will get real satisfaction out of winning games with a team playing well.
If that is true, I will be more than happy, because for all his faults, it was what I so loved about Ollie, he so desperately wanted his team to play well and to win ..for us all (manger, team, directors, fans) to have a good time

I do agree that he comes across to me as an honest likeable man, and I do think and hope that he will give his best to the job.

I get the impression this is a much hoped for clean slate for him.

He had some less than good times at Derby with over expectations of promotion, bigger name player egos and crackpot owners.

I get the feeling he needs this appointment to work if his credibility as a manager is going to have any longevity.

Back to basics if you will.

He's joined a club with no transfer budget, FFP fine looming over us, a vastly reduced squad, a supportive management team and a bunch of promising youngsters.

Maybe in an idealistic way he is the right man / coach to show what he can do with what is available to him right now.

Quote honestly, who amongst us wouldn't want to see a blend of our current youngsters teamed with some experienced players brought in by Steve, playing entertaining football and aiming for upper mid table? I'd take that right now

    Glass half full for me

We have some promising youngsters but I believe that they wouldn't become much more than that under holloway in the first team. His direct style of play and lack of tactical nouse would not improve these kids at football. McLaren in my opinion will improve them and in so doing will improve the team and club. I attended 2 coaching sessions and seminars of his back in 2003 in Durham. Was very impressed on his then emphasis of angles of play and the pass. Very much about off the ball angles of support for the player in possession and the then knock on effect regardless of receiving it or not. On a coaching field, this guy knows what he's doing. As a manager then I'm hopeful for my club and wish him all the best.

He mentioned QPR being in a £58million hole due to the fair play fines so at least he knows up front from day one that he's going to be limited in terms of budget. Saying that he expects us to be more creative is short-hand for needing to have some of the team play out of position, bring in the youngsters and do his best to attract players on free transfers or low cost deals. I could see the budget being stretched if we are in a decent position at Christmas just to give us a push towards a confirmed play-off place but if we are mid-table or lower by then I reckon he's going to have to make do with what he's got.

Do you think he's got one of these yet?

Bit gutted gather he took the job not knowing we're skint. Although not sure believe that. However, expect a better run side and better football. Shame we have no war chest but a step up I believe.

The difference with Warnock, first time round, was that he was being a successful manager at Palace, and the Mittals headhunted him. After the revolving door of managers with Briatore making the decision making, it was a relief. Expectations were high, and proved to be justified.

I like but you do remember that this is Tony Fernandes, his mates and Sir Les we're talking about. I doubt whether the 6 or is it 7 managers we've gone through so far under him would see it that way. new season, new messiah and sometimes at Christmas a brand new toy in the shape of a new footballing messiah.

unlucky boys, can't believe you have hired the wally with the brolly.

Short of him doing a good job at Boro and Twente, his record has been abysmal everywhere, especially in the championship.

I guess the good news is that he can't go out spending money that you don't have and decimiating your finances.

    Anyway good luck with promotion

true don't go on about my club. It's a basket case at the moment <laugh>.

I hope stevo proves me wrong but his successes have only been in the ages when Wenger was still the king.
