    Was thinking the same tbh, but the Hillsborough families put pressure on to get him knighted and he wouldn't insult them by refusing it.

    Great news. Can I suggest that the pub thread is changed so that it reads Public House, something a bit traditional and formal. As long as everyone agrees of course.

    Just seems right to me for such a grand man.

    "TheThe official citation lists Dalglish's astonishing football successes, as a player and a manager at several clubs, but also makes particular reference to his reaction to the Hillsborough tragedy and his family's ongoing charity work.

    The citation reads: “He was Liverpool manager at the time of the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989. He selflessly made himself available to the families of the bereaved, attending most of the funerals, organising hospital visits, and attending annual memorial services held at Anfield. He has been a steadfast supporter of the families in their quest for and throughout the Hillsborough Inquiry, and was granted Freedom of the City of Liverpool in recognition of his work. He is the co-founder of The Marina Dalglish Appeal, his family’s cancer charity which opened the £1.5m Centre for Oncology at University Hospital, Aintree in 2007 and which has raised over £10m in total.”

    I'm the same .... as an individual I'd like to see him say go **** yerselves but I know he'll realise na... use the ****ers to do even more charity work, have an even bigger say etc...and the final recognition that the scumbags were wrong....

    The recognition is more than well deserved.... pity it literally only comes because the establishment can no longer paint everyone involved in events as rabble ...


    What the city's citizens think about him has always been more important to the man I think.... which to me is the qualifier for this type of honour not because you played the sport well or paid a politician a **** load of money .

    Not even going to look at it....because I know what I'll see. Anyone that thinks the man doesn't deserve it is setiosly bitter. . By all means argue against the idea of it as a system ...but even if it was a non patronage type thing like say the US version ....he would still deserve that version .....
