Clever Burnley. Why is out turnover so low ..... A few years ago, a few million was breathtaking, now it's hundreds of millions with manchester united now having turnover of half a BILLION. ****ING HELL. When will the financial bubble pop? Could Villa be the start or will they be another one saved at the last minute to run up more debt? Some really scary figures there.
They reckon the explosion of finance in football hasn't even got off the ground yet. I was listening on the radio in the car last week and they had this fella on talking about finance and he said there's platforms out there that are interested in live broadcast sports that haven't entered the fray yet, two he mentioned were Amazon and Netflix (The second one I thought was strange) but Amazon you can see, and they've got some financial clout.
David Conn @david_conn Premier League: The 'big 6' have won their battle for more ££International TV money; any increase on the current ££ no longer be shared out equally, but according to where clubs finish...
Rob Harris @RobHarris Breaking: BT buys additional 20 Premier League games per season 2019-22 at a cost of £90m. They are paying £975m for 52 games each season for 3 years. Rob Harris @RobHarris Amazon Prime Video becomes first streaming-only platform to show Premier League live in Britain. They have 20 games per season from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme from 2019-22. Rob Harris @RobHarris Amazon says Premier League games 2019-22 "will be available on Amazon Prime Video in the UK at no extra cost to a Prime membership".
Amazon already has the rights to the men's tennis ATP tour from next year. They also have some NFL in US I believe.
Gate receipts / matchday income....some stats in millions£ CITY 16 Bournemouth 5 Burnley 6 Leicester 16 Borer 9 Stoke 7 SAFC 9 Swansea 7 Watford 8 WBA 7 Not sure these streams are all reported in same way or how honest these are. I know SAFC and Stoke have to bribe people to come and watch them but some very low amounts on there
They've also just won some bidding rights for live PL games - just popped up on my news feed earlier.
I'm beginning to think our figure is bollocks, there's no way we're anywhere close to matching Leicester's matchday income.
May be if sundry income, especially the Chinese lost purchase deposit has been put into this category it might explain the higher than expected figure?
According to City's last accounts the £16m income is made up of Attendance £8m Other Match Day £8m The previous year in the Championship - Attendance was £7.1m and Other Match Day £2m So an increase of Other Match Day income of £6m ! Maybe it's the Sportspesa sponsorship money - was it as much as that ?
That might be down to the corporate members being switched from the SMC to City. Over a quarter of members are corporate and they're paying three to four times as much as other members, so could easily account for half the income. Maybe the other club account for their corporate members separately to their normal match day income?
I know, but I didn't personally think they'd get involved with live sports. Given they are doing well with what they currently do. Paying over the odds for something where live free streams are readily available seems a bit daft.
David Conn @david_conn Now the EFL announces each club likely to keep majority of income from its own domestic streaming; ie big Championship clubs make more £, while central TV £ marginally reduced.
You're right .. just seen it on the news that Amazon have got a job lot of games. This will only increase future bidding wars. Is football really that important, to spend hundreds of millions on it? Maybe I'm just an old fart, but it doesn't seem right to me. #losingtouchwiththegameiknew
That's why I'm more interested in grass roots football at the moment. Professional football is just about ruined, what little enjoyment that was left in it, the Allams have killed.
