Rob Dorsett @RobDorsettSky1m1 minute ago Robbie Stockdale close to taking his first job as a manager. Ex #safc assistant has had 2 interviews with #Bradford. Negotiations ongoing. Watch him beat us
Wish him well, always seemed a nice bloke and he did great bringing on our kids which we are reaping the benefits of now.
l'll always think highly of the man, once upon a time Ged Magee's failed u18 graduated up to the u21s/23s and this man turned them from losers into our next wave of talented youth. So many of them will be playing for us this season. Ta fella.
He was a bit of a disaster , couldn't look after a quiet pram, we sunk with him as part of our watch, good riddance. You rate him.....opinions I guess, not for me tho.
he was only a first team coach to the seniors, that means implementing somebody else training plans. While he was running the show in the U21 he excelled.I followed the u21/23s very closely throughout that time and they played fantastic football, in fact, anybody not following the youth team at that time was missing out on the best football this club was producing. As you say, all opinions but his footballing philosophy has given me a lot of pleasure while many have been depressed watching the seniors.
I don't think it's up for debate that he did well with the youth team, they were one of the best in the country when he was looking after them. Could be wrong about this but I think since he left they got relegated.
I just signed up this site to like your post. Thank you. Totally agree with you. I always think Stockdale is a very good coach. Some of the fans' reactions to his departure were truly awful. On the other famous forum RTG/SMB, I defended him by posting part of his interview where he said he had different roles under different managers despite having the same first team coach title. Nobody took notice of that. IMO he probably had limited input under some of the managers. I read a lot of the U21 match reports on the old official site back when he was just promoted to first team coach. What he did with the youngsters was really impressive. I later wrote a paragraph of summary of those match results on his Wikipedia page, which seemed useful as all the reports were gone with the old official site (Bradford City fans were obviously reading it yesterday!). Now it's really great to hear about it from someone that followed the youth team closely. It is like first-hand information from the fans' perspective. So, thank you. He did ok while in sole charge of the first team especially the Wolves game where he selected a lot of young players. So I believe he'll do well as a manager if given decent resources and full control over recruitment and tactics. Wish him best of luck in whatever he does in future.
Keep on posting Jessie - we need to keep people on this forum as it's a place I enjoy and find the easiest to navigate! Agree completely with your comments too. There are some skewed opinions about Stockdale but one thing you can't argue is that he did wonders with our youth setup - our rubbish u18's became very good u21's - if people think that's nothing to do with Stockdale then they probably should give up watching football
I haven't got much to go on, but I've only heard good reports about him. He seems to have a very good record of achievement with the kids, and I was very impressed in our last game when he 'gave youth a chance' against the champions
Thanks for the welcome. I find this place much better than RTG. Some people on there are OTT. I suppose if I posted what I just said above on that forum, I'd be laughed at or slagged off right away.
Cheers fella stick around. I've always rated him. I mean loved the way everybody played fast and to feet. Our youngster then reminded me of the South Korea squad from 2002, they were super fit, attacking and never every stopped running for 90 mintues. Doesn't look like he's getting the Bradford job but there'll be a gaffers job coming up for him soon imo. I wish him the warmest possible best that my cold self is capable of
