He didn't find them. BPF was here and the choice was either you or him between the sticks cos Felix was completely ****e. Pearce was being shown the door until we were down to the bare boards. Not as convinced as you he is better than average at this level but Heck hadn't spotted it othwise he would have been offered the 24 year contract all the other average ****e has been given.
Am I missing something with all this excitement about Bielsa. I appreciate that people within the game are also speaking highly of him, and yet I get a feeling of being underwhelmed. This was Radz quote after he sacked TC Radrizanni said: "We want to have on board someone with a bright future but at the same time a knowledge of the territory. So Bielsa doesnt fit either of those two descriptions as far as I'm concerned. He was last touted as being successful 6 years ago, and that was for finishing as runners up in 2 competitions, not winning anything, and his managerial career since then has been shall we say interesting. People can point that he has experience of managing at international level, but then so do Chris Coleman, Steve McLaren, Sven Goran Eriksson, and would we be getting excited about any of them. As far as I'm concerned Alex Sabella did better as Argentinian Manager, he got them to an actual World Cup Final, but I guess it also comes down to how excited you can get about Olympic football It can also be pointed out that many foreign managers have come over here and been successful, without having any experience of the English game, but there are probably way more that have failed, we just don't remember them. My problem is that I want to believe in Radz, and yet he continues to confound me every time he has a major decision. He obviously doesnt want a more traditional British manager, or is unable to persuade one of those to work with Orta I guess I'm left with a feeling of bewilderment, and that having read up on the guy, am left with the impression that things are more likely to go wrong than right, although as always I'm hoping that I've totally misread the situation , and in 12 months time be more than happy to admit that the more optimistic folk were correct
Everyone is so desperate for progress we (even me) are hoping for the best whilst as you point out have reason to fear for the worst. If the squad isn't improved we could have signed Pep as coach and we would still achieve nothing. If there is excitement about this it will be gone if we sign serie b or worse players. I am not believing rad has found a clue on how to run a club..
No doubt he's a risk but any manager we get is going to be a risk - but this would be an exciting risk. We might also be getting him at the right time. After his last few appointments would guess that he would be wary of making sure he gets the assurances he needs and likewise I would imagine Leeds for the same reasons will be making sure he knows what he's getting himself in to and hopefully being honest about what resources/freedom he will and won't get and these two match. If we did get him (and whoever we're getting there's got to be a reason why they flew Orta out to Athens to give him his P45 rather than wait until he got back on Sunday) there's no doubt that he would want and would attract better players. If it were Bielsa would imagine that would smooth the way for moves for Hernandez and loan move for Gunn. (Would also imagine Pep And Pochettino would be very happy to loan him players as well.)
If you read todays club statement the criteria has changed from a guy with a future to someone who has had it and come out at the other end with success. Experienced was the word used. Potchetino thinks of him as dad and the best coach and says he was the biggest influence on him and has copied his style of play. Pep says he is the best coach in the world. We need to remember that he spent 6 years as manager of Argentina and then managed Chile so all those years he wasnt competing for leagues and cups. He won those in Argentina and has since won in Spain etc, but he has lost a lot of years not being in club football. My cup is half full on this guy, but I also have to say that whoever we get will be experienced so it could even be Almeyda who is also being mentioned, Big Mick, Big Sam, just as long as its not Tisdale
Bewildered. Pretty much sums up the way I'm feeling too. You've covered most of my thoughts on this chap, Aski, and another aspect that confounds me is that he favours attacking football. So did TC, and was successful for a short while. But after our trip southwards, all the 'expert' Leeds fans declared that we needed a British manager who knew the league & would get us to bully our way out of this league. Now the same 'experts' are frothing at the mouth over the prospect of another foreign manager ("that knows fook all about english football, far less the Championship"), and the added prospect of attacking football. I hope & I pray, but ..... I just don't know what to think at the moment, and must admit that I'd never heard of this chap before (my fault, not his). The only positive for me is that Heckie has left us. I was never convinced that he was the answer, and not once did he raise my spirits during his tenure. I just hope it's not out of the frying pan .....
But pretty sure he would have heard of him and his reputation and would be more willing to work with someone who has a reputation of improving all the players who work with him as opposed to spending time with The Heck
Doc I get all that, but I guess I'm just not seeing all the excitement, guess I'm blind. All I know is that whoever we get I want him to be a success, but this guy doesnt seem to be getting my enthusiasm going
