I understand the Israeli passport allows for 6 months residency a year - but as you say not work. I wonder whether the visa he previously had allowed him to work because you could argue that being the chairman of a football club is employment. So perhaps that has never been enforced anyway? Or perhaps there is a legal definition of work that means paid employment or a certain number of hours don't count? Anyway you can be sure his lawyers will find a loophole - just as you can be sure that the Standard won't report anything negative. I can also be sure that he'll be paying less tax than me - but let's not tax the rich as they might leave the country! Like that's a bad thing. Basically if I had as much money as these tax avoiders I'd be happy to pay tax on it!

His expired visa was as an investor, so previously his working as such, was no problem.

Becoming an Israeli citizen doesn't lessen his Putin links, which would seem to be the central issue, so I'm wondering whether even this lame duck government will just let him and the other Putin Oligarchs sidestep the visa issue. It really would make them look the prats that they are.....especially Boorish Johnson.

Whatever the outcome, Gideon's gonna be out there singing for his supper over the weeks and months ahead.

But isn't Putin trying to revive the old system? A dictatorship, his way.....just as Trump is trying to do?

The "old system" was totalitarian based on
communist dogma. As Russia has the era of the
oligarskys (who nowadays remain in wealth -
and alive - depending on how much in favour
with Putin they remain) , I would say Putin is
trying to revive the former without the latter.

    Christian Pulisic's dad says...

"He was linked to Tottenham. Last week it was Liverpool. The week before Man United. The week before this… it's hogwash."

    Sky Sport's take...

Christian Pulisic's father has told Sky Sports reports linking him with a move to Spurs are "hogwash" - but was less committal about the midfielder's future.

So, no mention of any clubs playing in red, huh? <laugh>

Last night's Standard repeated the BBC's "Gareth Bale will not sign for Tottenham" headlines.

I wonder how Man Utd manage with the 6472 players they have to balance due to the papers triumphantly stating they will sign for them...

The headline in the Tottenham section of the Evening Standard 's website tonight'?

Chelsea can still sign the world's best players without Champions League, insists Cesar Azpilucuetta.

Caught this little Mail headline in a newsfeed
If Tottenham's new ground isn't ready in time...their title bid could be over before it starts

I guess we'll just have to win the 34 games we'll play at the new stadium then...

    Also in hack headlines
49% of Spurs fans would ditch Trippier for Alexander-Arnold

Not exactly the most "Will of the People" figure there.

Nice bit of hacketry from Sports Witness...
9000 fans vote for Christian Eriksen transfer

Aside from the fact that, if fan votes ever dictated transfer policy most teams would be lumbered with a bunch of one-season wonders or players who are much better on FIFA than they are in real life, didn't it occur to Sports Witness that it doesn't matter how anyone in Barcelona votes as the Madrid government will just declare the vote illegal and have those behind it arrested?

Danny Kelly on TalkSHITE with John Cross and Dean Saunders on the topic of Real Madrid's new manager.......

OMFG, Words cannot express just how much they want it to be Mauricio Pochettino. The funniest bit so far was Dean Saunders [not one of life's more cerebral individuals] saying....."Go on then, how much would it take for Daniel Levy to let him go and buy a player?"

    Dean Saunders.......<laugh>

There an article on the front of the Sunday Times sports section today about how Poch is keen to go to Real.... (but they might not get him as they have to negotiate with Levy). This "informed" article contains, you've guessed it, no suggestion of evidence whatsoever.

I saw that. Maybe, if you play Mauricio Pochettino's answers at the book launch backwards, it says.......

    "Leee...veeee......keeeeeps.......meeee.......preee......zonnnn......errrrrrr........'Ellllllp........meeeee.........sennnnnn........yorrrrrrr......Perrrrrr......ezzzzzz."

It would make more sense than that article.

He cannot though, even if his life depended on it.

Things are so bad at Madrid now that they tried to
will an 'approach clause' into existence in
Pochettinos' new contract, just so they might avoid
    a Bale-esque Levying.
