I don't ever recall any active Hull City AFC player ever getting into an international squad that's appeared in the finals, unless Altidore was still officially on our books(?) when he was in the South African finals. This time we have 3 contracted players showing up in Russia: Larsson, Grosicki & Irvine. Who'll get on the park to be our first ever active larker in the world's biggest sporting spectacle I wonder ?
Assuming all three start, it will be Irvine who plays first, if he doesnt then it will be Larsson. I’m not sure if Irvine will start the first game as he has only started in 1 of the last three games, although he did score in that one, and the last one he did come on. I would guess he will be a sub but then I’m not the coach so who knows.....
Yes. I modified my question, after having forgotten 4 who had played - (2 dubiously active(Altidore & Figgy) - 2 active (Jelly & Garcia)) . See post # 5
Altidore wasn't actually our player and his loan expired before the World Cup, but there was absolutely nothing dubious about Figeuroa.
I thought Figgy was back out on loan to Wigan for a fair bit of the time he was with us ? Maybe it was after the WC tournament.
He didn't go to Wigan until the following season, he made 38 appearances for us in the season running up to the World Cup.
Fair enough. I prefer to define an "active" player as having had at least 1 full season both before & after appearing for his nation at the WC finals.
I think the easiest definition would be that the player is contracted to Hull City during the World Cup tournament. So: Grosicki - Yes Larsson - No If Wales had qualified and Harry Wilson was in the squad - No
