What the parachute payments do in some cases is to encourage clubs to commit the money in advance. I read that one of the threatened PL clubs had only 2 players who'd suffer a pay cut if they were relegated. No wonder then that some don't seem to have shown the fight you'd expect down in the bottom 6...

Exactly, why will they fight as they get the same money no matter what league they play in.. but as a pro you would surely want to be in the best league playing against the best ..

The system is still wrong and i think these payments should be stopped and then lets see how they run their clubs..

In league 2 everyone and it's dog thought Portsmouth would go up first time. They didn't. There were other favourites who didn't also. There were short priced favourites in league one this season who didn't finish as well as possibly expected by the bookies. There are a few clubs who went to the Championship in recent years who were hardly favourites to go there, I still maintain that size or supposed size of club has no baring on actual success each season.

Who says he was linked to us? The only person who knows who is and isn't in the frame is DA and a very small handful of others. Have already seen some comments saying we have been 'outbid' for him and 'can't compete'- absolute rot. I expect DA has a very long list of targets , some will come off and some won't-those that don't will be for a whole host of reasons .

PS contracts run from 1st July until 30th June so we cant 'sign' anyone who has a current contract until 1st July. (We might be able to do a few deals in the background before then though)<whistle>o_O

Thanks Lyndy for that.....of course we the peasants can only feed on the tip bits and scraps that others pass on.
But that is a good point that you have made.... regarding most of our targets are still under contract until the end of June....so maybe Adams has pencilled in a few possible deals and come to some agreements with players that will be available in July...who knows...we just need to be patient and wait.

I understand why people do rumours on transfers as it sort of keeps an interest ticking over for many and there is a sort of competition for people to "be in the know". Personally though it frustrates me a bit because all I want to know is who actually does sign and rumours muddy the waters. Still, it's harmless I guess.

The truly awful Plymouth Herald gas a lot to answer for. Their cycle seems to be:

Find a player who's out of contract

Report that he could be on PAFC's list

Report fans' reaction to their baseless story

Report that he's signed for someone else

Report fans' reaction to PAFC losing out on the "deal"

    Repeat ad nauseam

Champions League final tonight....with an English team in it...but no viewing for terrestrial TV viewers.

...also we're being thrashed by Pakistan at test match cricket....didn't realize it had started until Thursday evening....Oh the memories of test match special......with commentating Gems such as...."The bowler's HOLDING, the batsman's WILLEY"......boom boom.

Rotherham win 2-1 after extra time.

So last years relegated teams all go straight back up to the Championship.

The crowd was 26,218 the lowest attendance ever for Div 1 in the 28 years of holding this play-off Final.

It's been reported by the Scottish paper The Daily Record that PAFC have made an approach to talk to Hibernian's Chief Executive Leeann Dempster....It seems that James Brent made the approach and it was refused.

Talk of Argyle being interested in Ross County's 23 year old Jason Naismith who has still got a contract until 2020. Other clubs are also interested in the relegated Ross County player....including Aberdeen....Argyle's big problem is Naismith's 2020 contract, so a fee would be required.
Naismith would be a replacement for Oscar Threlkeld who has gone to Belgium.

Coventry and Exeter 0-0 after 25 mins. Coventry having the better of it. First impressions are that both clubs have a better turnout than Shrewsbury!

Not much else to report on 1st half apart from the fact Coventry should have had a player sent off for elbowing someone in red & white in the throat.

Not keen to find excuses for ECFC but if it was one of ours, we'd be livid.
