What's your early verdict of Pompey, five games in to the season.

Six points is an average of 1.2/game, which would, over 46 games, tally up to 55; three fewer than last season.
On the other hand, our six points is four more than last season, which saw us propping up the table after five games.

So what are your initial thoughts; and have your hopes and expectations changed at all since the start of the season?

Mainly relieved devo, that our new squad of players appear to be gelling fairly quickly. They seem to be a good bunch of characters.

We are playing some nice football, and even if Steve C thinks we didn't play too well against Cardiff (because they were overtired ?!), we still managed to create some good chances, with both Halford & Ward hitting the woodwork.

I'm happy with our start - far more positive than this time last year <ok>

I had us down for this many points after 5 games so I guess it's so far so good. That said, yesterday's game was pretty dire and, while we should have scored before they did, we were lucky to get something back after they went in front. I think we have a decent enough squad for a top half finish but I do have two major concerns - namely the lack of anyone creative commanding the midfield, resulting in too much hoofing over the top, and no penetration or pace down the flanks. Neither Lawrence or Varney seem capable of taking the full back on and beating them and, although Ward and ben Haim look pretty solid as full backs, they do not have the pace to get up the pitch quick and overlap the 'wingers' in support. It all seemed too predictable and pedestrian to me but perhaps I'm being harsh and need time to fully gell.

not a bad start so far, always room for improvement but generally pleased with what i've seen so far! Long way to go yet, waiting to see how things shape up after ten or so games at least
