It's a good thing for Bain that being a nice guy is utterly irrelevant to how well he does his job. In fact if anything it would be a hindrance.

Another forum asks just what do CEO's do, and asks if anyone can name a good one, neither Byrne or Bain would get my nomination. <ok>

Why wasn't Bain good? From everything we've been told he was asked to cut costs at a club hemorrhaging money - he did that - debt reduced as per the owners demands.

As a bloke I don't like him - - but he did what he was asked as far as I can see. What would you expect him to do? Get himself sacked for ignoring his bosses demands?

It's like blaming the trainer for showing you how to use the new software the management team have demanded you use (my line of work, massive experience in this field)

Who gives a **** now? We will never know the full facts so we can speculate whether he did a good job or not, but we don’t know.

He’s part of the history we will hope to forget allto soon, and for sure he was no Daniel Levy was he?

    Adios pal. We move on.

As I've said before, once they've gone they're dead to me.

Couldn't give a flying **** about him now. He'll get something else pretty quick.

Anyone defending him is doing so out of contrition. He blatantly lied to fans and didn't give a toss about the club or us at all! He was simply here for the money he's as bad as, if not worse, than any agent, player or manager who's used us over the last decade.

CEO has nothing to do with the playing side. It’s an executive financial position. If you’re asked to cut costs then the football side if things is insignificant disco. Only thing that matters is the business side. He saved the club money and did what the owner asked. Business has no place in football... but it does unfortunately

Marcus please don't try to tell me a CEO has nothing to do with the main function of a business. You're showing a fundamental lack of understanding or you're arguing a falsehood for the sake of it. CEOS aren't glorified accountants. Many of them don't even have finance backgrounds so I don't know where you get that from. They could be from operations, sales, marketing or any business function. They're not just bean counters.

Hence why Ajax, Inter and Milan often have head honchos who were formerly players.

A CEO is responsible for absolutely everything a business undertakes. Any decent CEO knows whats going on in all departments of their business. They hire and fire department heads, surrounding themselves by those best qualified to run said departments.

A CEO has absolutely everything to do with everything. If they don't. They're ****ing **** and belong back in middle management.

A company's success and failure lands squarely at the door of the CEO as they are responsible for the output of the company. Our output has seen us drop two divisions. He was the head of the company. He ****ed up.

Make excuses all you like but they won't wash.

Sums everything up about the position we are in when the two most active posts at the moment are about Rodwell and Bain.....or maybe just call them Burt and Ernie. You couldn't write the script with these two.....ffs. One's out the way and the other hopefully very soon then the club can start to breathe again.

He admitted it was his call to sell vito and stuck by it even when we looked doomed, he was involved enough with the playing side enough to relegate us and lacked the humility to admit he got it wrong. And that boils me piss.

Football is business but it can’t ever be run like one. If Bain has come into the nhs and cut costs as he did at SAFC he’d have been an unqualified success. It’s only where football is concerned that he’s failed. But imo that was as he was asked to do shorts bidding. (That’s how it looks to me)

I don’t like the bloke but I don’t lay blame with him for is being league 1. He’s saved the club massive amounts by removing unnecessary costs. To me that was his job.

You make it sound like short would have been disappointed if we'd stayed up having spent a tiny bit more but having added a great deal to the value of the club.

Bain doing his job well would have been running the club on a shoestring budget and the club doing alright. Like many other CEOs at many other clubs. Going down and spending **** all is not an achievement.

We're getting nowhere here. I don't think you fully understand what a CEO does and what they're responsible for.

I know at NHS organisation level what a CEO does but you're right - in a football club I have absolutely no idea as, from what I can see, it doesn't work in the same way. You can enlighten me if you wish but I truly don't know what a Football Club CEO would do when compared to the real world. As far as I can see the 2 are only the same in name alone - not in duties/responsibility.

I'm not going to fall out with anyone over it - different opinions and all that (And if I made it sound like that for Short then that wasn't intentional - although I honestly think he didn't give a flying **** by the end)

A CEO in every organisation manages everyone and everything. If they don't they're not a CEO.

They oversee absolutely everything and report to no one within the organisation.

Regardless of the industry. By the very definition of the job title it is the same across the board. They're responsible for everything.

Football is no different to advertising. A CEO oversees the company while department heads report to him. He doesn't need to be skilled in those departments functions. He just needs to manage those who are.

He's the bloke steering the ship. If there's an industry where it differs from that I haven't come across it.

I just don’t think it’s as simple as that personally. Just an opinion. I don’t want to change yours and you won’t change mine

My opinion is that footbal CEO works in a completely different way to every other organisation - I've dealt with CEOs and CFOs of various companies and organisations in my career and they are methodical and involved in every part of the business as you say. Martin Bain, from what I could see, wasn't as he had been told he wasn't allowed to spend money by the person that owns the club - CEOs seem more involved in the financial side of things in a football club than at NHS and company level (that I've worked with) - this is where I base my opinion - he's a puppet for Ellis Short regardless of job title - you could've put me in as CEO but when the CEOs boss tells the CEO to do something he has to do it - I don't, for one second, think Bain had the balls to say "No screw this I'm going to do what's best for the club" as he likes his 1.4m salary too much - as I say, that's how I see it and that's how I get an opinion - don't patronise me by saying I don't know what a CEO does
