Can’t let the new guy have a longer period than the last guy, let’s give him same number of games as Sam to try and beat his ppg total

 

If the new man is a fraud/worse than sam he shouldn’t be able to better his ppg over those 21 games.......are we on?

 

what was the total though... how many points is the bet for.

was Sam that amazing that it couldn't be over 38 games?


also what is so impressive about 8th when Everton should at very worst be looking to be 7th looking up at the big six and have about 60 odd points.



in other words why dont you two come up with a bet that's actually a risk..

or better yet you both just bloody donate to charity and forget the bet

Cant believe i am getting into this, but personally i dont think your bet is fair pj. (Ftr i dont mind sam, but think he was like roy for us, wrong man for the club), the new guy is going to get a pre season and more likely than not the transfers he wants in the summer transfer window, which we know is the preferable one.
Plus you cant allow for all the variables, like you are due a win against us, and some of the teams played will be better/worse etc.
In short, I think that Astros bet is the fairer one

Also, didn’t Astro spend beards calculating the supposed ‘real’ league positions based on yr on yr fixtures as opposed to merely games played? I seem to remember plenty of graphs on the subject and him saying it was the true measure of progress........

 

A comparison between the same fixtures with the same players and conditions would be fair. But our opponents will also have had similar preparation. Astro was full of beans that the new guy was worse.....what better way than my proposal. 21 games, 30 points to try and beat.

 

Fat Sam's points total is irrelevant because the players were on the beach knowing they couldn't catch Burnley

Seem to me you're expecting 50 points and 9th place finish and thinking of a way of spinning it as #progress

FFS you won't even commit to being the best of the rest, I didn't even dare suggest you break top 6

 

The fixture comparison is a better measure of progress when only part way through the season (and most importantly before the busy Christmas schedule) so your particular starting fixtures are very relevant to your results. This is a fact ignored by Everton fans who hounded out Koeman for having the worst possible list.

By the end of the season the "by fixture" line and "by week" line end up at the same place.

 

So let’s compare the fixtures sam had against the new guy.

That would be a sign of progress or regression.....

Objective bet options:

1. Everton finish 7th. irrespective of anything else everton could have and didn't bother this year. So thats quite achievable is "better than sam" is the criteria (burnely had 54 points in 7th)

2. Point total: everton had 18 points after 15 games. after 38 games they had 49 points = 31 points in 23 games = 1.347ppg = 51 points.

3. same lasted form 30th nov to end of may = not a full season

4. Everton scored 19 goals and conceded 28 prior to sam arriving , finished on 44 scored 58 conceded = 25 scored in 23 and 30 conceded in 23 = 42 goals over a season scored and 50 conceded.

so:

surely to be better than sam:

a) last a full season

b) Either get 75th or over 51 points minimum

c) score more than 42 goals, concede less than 50



Its really simple... just pick one!

In my view astro makes outrageous claims but he has the guts to do it. How about we see you have the guts to make an outrageous claim and actually take a risk for once
