BBC doing their best to keep the local club on the front page at HQ

"Manchester United 'remains most valuable club in Europe'

But not the most successful English club in Europe and not in the Champions League Final on Saturday.:emoticon-0172-mooni

I don't go on the CL match day threads until after the game - working out great. So thought I'd post these here. Some of the banners going to Kiev.

Lorca - promoted from third to second division in his first season in charge for the first time in the clubs history. Then in his second season finished 5th on 69 points in the second division, only 5 points off promotion to the first division.

Almeria - in first season got them promoted from second to first division for the first time in the clubs history. Second season finished 8th in the top flight.

Valencia - first season lead a Valencia side with severe financial issues to 6th. Followed by finishing 3rd three seasons in a row (can't get much better than that barring a freak season where Madrid and Barca mess up). Also European highlights of QF away goal loss to Atletico in Europa league who went on to win it and made it to the last 16 of the CL.

Spartak Moscow - short spell, sacked mid season after loss to local rivals.

Sevilla - finished 5th, then 5th again (1 point off 4th), then 7th (played youth and reserves at end of season to focus on Europa). Won Europa league in all 3 seasons, becoming the only manager and club to have done so. Also got to a Copa Del Rey final (runners up to Barca).

PSG - first season won domestic cup treble, runners up in the league. Second season won domestic quadruple. CL last 16 twice. Highest win % of any PSG manager to date (73.7%), ahead of both Blanc and Ancelotti.

So he has overachieved at every club he has managed except his short time in Russia and potentially achieved as expected at PSG but whilst winning more games than any previous manager.

Very respectable career so far and plenty of trophies at his last two clubs including European trophies.

Not the marque name Arsenal fans had hoped for but appears to be a capable manager so I'm looking forward to seeing how he gets on. Glad we chose him over Arteta!

TBH I think he's a good manager and a far wiser choice than arteta. I'm not sure precisely what people want at arsenal.

You've enough cash to make an impact but you HAVE to think long term. The clubs has only taken baby steps off the field before sacking wneger so the recruitment side and technical direction needs so much work. I hope people didn't think to appoint a worldie and challenge ofr title instantly.

IMO arsenal have 4 really good attackers and some reserves, have two really good full backs but then the centre of midfield and defense and goal are weak and soft. theres no way without 5 players minimum all for first team that arsenal get near challenging so the new guy needs time. IMO he's a wise choice to fix that flaky away form.

If you'd appointed arteta i would have said you were mad and headed for the scrap heap.

I think aubameyang needs to be kept happy, ozil needs to be motivated and mkhitaryan needs an arm round to coax his best form back. Lacazette might be odd man out but who knows.

2 strong CMs a must imo

Moshiri found an even worse manager to replace him with.

Definitely need CMs, CBs and a GK.

Off the field there have been good signs recently by getting Dortmunds Head of Recruitment, Barcelonas Director of Football and a legal guy from Team Sky who previously worked in the city to handle contract negotiations. We appear to be putting together a far more capable off field team.

Hopefully Emery is the right man and this new collective of people take us in the right direction.

    Yes, its all progress.

they all have to settle in and build the systems so that the right players are flowing, right coaches are flowing and the right signings are identified and chased.

Time will tell. You want another bet?

I will offer the next manager will get more points per game than sam did. We can start from beginning of season or go for the same fixtures Sam had (Home and away over the season)

Make it a nice even £5 for kidney research UK.

    Sure @Tobes will monitor.

So you are not confident that the new guy wouldn’t beat Sams totals for the identical games? I thought he was worse than sam even?

So you aren't confident that with a preseason, 2 transfer windows, and a long term contract so players will actually bother your new guy can't even get you top 7?

You disagree he's worse but don't think he can improve on 8th place cobbled together by Koeman, Unsworth and Fat Sam with some of the worst signings in history?

Sounds to me that you understand Moshiri is a #fraud and taking you nowhere

just as a question on this silly betting thing

what was fat shams points per game total and what number of points would that be over a season?

if it's like 45 points it's be a silly bet.

    also... 8th?

come on guys seriously... 7th. has to be the bet surely to make it interesting.

Maybe it wasn’t fully clear. Say sam was in charge for 23 games, the new guy gets the first 23 games to get more ppg than sam. The second choice is we take the 23 fixtures over the season and use that (replace relegated sides with promoted sides to give same number of games home/away
