There is no betting on the next permanent Southampton manager that I can find. That’s usually a sign that things are done and dusted. I’m still going with the Simon Peach and @- Doing The Lambert Walk theory, that it’s just lawyers haggling over minutiae that’s taking the time.
I don't know if we have spoken to them, all I know is that he is our number one choice and nothing will happen until after Saturday.
Well seeing as I don't want it to be Hughes I am going to hope that this is true. No doubt when we do speak to them they will tell us to **** off and we will be scrabbling around for a manager again during the world cup.
I think running a football club is akin to soap opera.... Player signings, managerial appointments are usually sorted within minutes... They just have to drag it out to create enought drama for the fans! We love it and can’t get enought of it... entertainment!
Okay someone is gonna have to sell Jokanovic to me cos i'm not convinced we should go for another unproven type.
I've liked the look of Jokanovic for a while but he'll be under a lot of pressure to start quickly if he gets the job. It doesn't matter who it is if the board don't address the issues in the squad again though.
Makes you wonder whether the provarocation is trying to get over the weekend to see if Fulham win the play offs and see if Jokanovic will be available.
The issue any manager will have who isn't Hughes is that it seems most fans have taken to Hughes, so if they start badly we will have another manager under instant pressure from the fans. Pretty much the only reason I would appoint Hughes is to try and keep a "feel good factor" around the club for a little bit, well until he starts ****ing up anyway because he isn't a particularly good manager.
The most important thing is, the players want Hughes. That's the only thing that matters. We know they will play for him. Getting in another unproven manager basically risks jeopardising this. In fact, it basically equates to the board saying they dont give a flying **** what the players want. And we wonder why they always want to leave.
Have to hold our horses here. This will probably happen, but, if it doesn't, it could be that Hughes's demands were too great. I have no idea, any more than any other fan, but would guess a compromise could be reached if close...but not if it is miles off.
That is a plus point as well but I don't know how much that was down to Hughes and more about having a different style to Pellegrino/Puel (ie not ultra defensive. Hughes has a track record at other clubs of falling out with players and Stoke and QPR fans seem to think he basically let the players do whatever they wanted. I think if it wasn't Hughes the players would be willing to give the new guy a chance, much more so than the fans anyway. they are professionals and are used to changes like that. Fans are idiots who go into meltdown over **** like the kit
but, if it doesn't, it could be that Hughes's demands were too great. ___________________ Or made out to be too great..................
Yeah considering the bloke just made us 100m quid, you'd think we could meet his asking price. Made this mistake before with Koeman. Blows my mind that we are paying Forster - who we could all see from very early on in his time with us wasn't exactly the safest pair of hands - over 4m quid a year for 5 years, and yet we get stingy over the managers' salaries.
