Hence Ehab changing the goalposts when we went up last time, the deal was done, if we went up or didn't.
When a price for the club was being floated around these threads the club had a decent tranche of parachute monies to come and value in the squad. Is this being deliberately overlooked to discredit the owners? If it is - and it seems that way - then it does the case against their ownership no good at all.
Sunderland have more parachute payments to come and own their own ground which has twice the capacity of ours. So why were they bought for about 60% of what the Allams want?
They bought Sunderland with no debt. Ellis Short wrote the debt off. (You could say it was a gift to the city of Sunderland). So for £40 million the owners have more in parachute payments than we have, a ground which is the 6th largest in England, training facilities and a lot larger fanbase. Can't understand why they aren't beating the door down to pay £70 million fora team with no stadium and no facilities.
The new owner, Stewart Donald, has taken over a League One club however, you have to factor in decreased revenue through lower gates, TV & merchandising. Also there is no absolute certainty that Sunderland will bounce straight back
They have more parachute payments to come in than we have. Revenue from gates will be higher than ours as croeds will be higher than ours even in .Div 1. Same with merchandising.
I am just hoping that isn't the case. But expect to be disappointed. A bit like when I used to hope I would be returning home to find Julie Christie lying there waiting for me. But was invariably disappointed. But kept on hoping...
If you judge it in the context of the time framewe are looking at, then the difference in debt was critical; times have changed and Phil is right.
Oh sorry pal, she was round my pad. But seriously. What would they have to hang around for? What with the parachute money gone along with most of their customers? They'll be gone. They might like to snigger that they ****ed us up and left us in div 3, but we'll know they ****ed up a great chance to leave a wonderful legacy their family could be proud of. That statue of Grandad would have been something to very nice for them to see.
