Sorry, I’m a bit late to this party, but I voted Hughes. If the salary he wants is no more than some of the players then I say pay him. It’s a no brainier. He may not be the long term saviour but he sure played a part this season. 2 years of new managers seemingly causing skittish players, so for me it’s best to get some stability, and then build on that.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/16237784.Saints_hope_to_announce_Hughes_early_this_week/ Echo repeat story that the signing of Hughes is imminent. How informed they are is anyone's guess.
Hope that is not correct, the premiership money that Hughes helped secure will pay is salary many times over. This is not the time to argue over a million or two. The board seem happy to blow £20m on a Monaco reserve striker, you rrally have to question their judgement!
I reckon he will be announced on Thursday. Th last two managers have been announced when I have been at Heathrow waiting for a flight, so this one will be no different. It will be before 12:30pm as that is when I take off
All I can say is that I hope my usually very reliable media based informant is correct or I end up with egg on my face.
Embarrassment doesn't worry me I'll just brazen it out as I have a very thick skin . As for Hughes I am really undecided but if I had to make the call I would say no.
I want Hughes because he seems to have brought the team together after a difficult season...that will definitely produce results. Don't want another season of turmoil. He is also available...not a small issue when you consider how long it can take to get a new manager...who may or may not be successful here. Hughes is probably not the manager to take us charging into the top 4 (be nice if he was), but could be the in-between manager that stabilises us in a period when a new owner is settling in.
I think they just need to get several suit cases filled with cash, maybe just fivers and tenners... Let’s not just get carried away here we don’t have a lot of money to spend! This should help sweeten the deal with MH...
I've heard that nothing will be announced until the Championship playoff final has been played. Jokanovic is our first choice, Hughes is our back up.
I'd tell them to stuff it in that case if I was Hughes, but then I'm not a pragmatic person seeking a lucrative job. I should think after being involved in football for decades, Hughes has seatbelts on all his toys.
I would be surprised (even for Saints) if Hughes isn't the main and possibly only person on the current shortlist. Whether we offer him the contract he wants is a different question. I suspect though that Jokanovic is a plan B if Hughes doesn't want the job rather than the other way round. As I said a few posts up, put your house on it being announced whilst I am at Heathrow departures on Thursday, both Puel and Pellegrino were announced like that
He got his £1m bonus, and he'll have no problem finding a job next season when the usual sackings take place. Probably has one eye on the Cardiff job already. I'm sure he won't lose any sleep over it.
But yeah, if Hughes was our first choice - the deal would have been done last week. Contracts don't take that long to agree, despite what the club would have us believe. It took us 2 days to hire Hughes after sacking Pellegrino, we were basically safe from relegation nearly 2 weeks ago yet still no permanent contract for Hughes?
The board as a whole has to agree the appointment...........Trying to get them together for the meeting is the problem. My understanding is that there is a board meeting Wed or Thursday.....So just maybe an announcement afterwards unless of course the board have a surprise for us!! Who knows.......... this lot are so slow on the uptake...........it makes me wonder if they actually know what they are supposed to do..........
Do they not have Skype, email or phones? How out of date are they? Surely they all had to agree before discussing it with MH or they will look a bit silly when someone says they don't want him. Oh sorry Mark it turns out Les isn't keen - awkward.
