    You're mad :emoticon-0136-giggl

I'd do a straight swap for Redmond any day of the week. And Long actually, he would make Long look sluggish. Its his speed that makes his dribbles stats so high, chips into space and burns right past defenders. Strong unit, ridiculously quick. If you can get his confidence play right he'd be an asset.

Check out 1' 25" in this video. Unbelievable.

my Boro fan mate was talking about him just the other day, scores fab goals, obviously will be looking to move from the championship, takes the piss when on one of his runs, frustrating at times but loved by the fans. he went to Boro for close to 20 mil I think, they will prob get rid as they missed out on promotion

Lot less than 20m; reported fee was closer to half that from what I can see.

Certainly, wouldn't turn him down. At the same time, I think that our biggest need is a dynamic passer in attacking midfield.

And we always have the option to drop Long into midfield.

I don’t know, if we did that we’d lose his ability to scare the daylights out of defenders with all his running about so speedy and his inability to control the call they wouldn’t have a clue where to track.

Does anyone else think that we should have kept Jay? I know Carrillo may yet prove ok (o_O), but surely a striker that knew the team was worth hanging onto. Hindsight is a wonderful thing I know.

Think there are question marks over all four of our strikers.

Carrillo - is he worth a chance, because if so, I doubt we'd spend big again on another striker to sit on the bench.
Long - do we cash in?
Austin - is keeping him worth the risk if he gets injured again?
Gabbi - will he want to stay considering he's not getting many minutes?

My opinion, sell Carrillo and bring in a starting striker. If we stick with him and he continues to not score then we're in the **** again. Sell Long and bring in someone for the future who would be more open to being a squad player. Play Gabbiadini more and keep Austin in reserve/off the bench and hope he stays fit.

Austin is worth keeping...he had some fantastic shots v Swansea. He will get you goals. However, cannot be your sole hope as he will be injured for part of the season.
Long...offers speed and can work well beside the right striker. Is that enough?
Carrillo...only someone who sees him in training can make that call. Is he just not good enough or was it too hard for him to make an impact in the EPL when everyone else was underperforming.
Gabbi. Oh, Gabbi, Gabbi, Gabbi. Good striker with the right team, but won't get us as many goals as we need.

A side screaming for a Rickie Lambert....a striker who can give you so much more...but they don't make them anymore.

I wouldn't be ditching Carrillo yet, seems incredibly harsh to write him off after a few games in a new league. He wasn't exactly first choice at Monaco so was going to be rusty anyway. I'd let him have pre season and see from there, it is not like we haven't got other strikers we could get rid of if we wanted to sign a new one.

Yes I agree, The way Pellegrino played him was all wrong, I mean how many high crosses can you remember him on the end of?.I think that he could be a decent Targetman option if he has the right attacking players around him (even if only from the bench), not up front on his jack.

Fair points, but he didn't even make the squad for a lot of the games when Hughes came in. And £19m seems like an expensive bench option for a club like us.

As the unofficial chair of the Jay Rodriguez fan club, I have to say no,we did the right thing.

The poor sod looked like a headless chicken at times. My Liverpool supporting son was at the Cup game against Albion and rang me raving about Jay, and why the **** hadn't we kept him. But sadly, I think he had to go to find himself again. Albion won't be keeping him. Maybe back to Burnley? Now if you're asking should we put in a cheeky bid, offering Les Reed as part of the package I'm with you!
