Hughes said it himself, quite openly, the other day: it's not as if anything should come as a surprise to the board. From the day they appointed him, there was always going to be one of two outcomes; either we stay up, or go down. They've had two months to devise a plan for both of those outcomes in the background, whilst Hughes got on with his work.
I wish it was 4-1 Scotland !. It wasn`t, and I watched it in the Woolston pub. I took some stick that night!
Lawrie took the piss out of the unfortunate Rough while acing as a pundit once. A Scottish ex-player was saying how cool Rough was under pressure. Sitting on the bench during a key game Rough had suddenly produced a packet of sandwiches and started handing them round the subs. Quick as a flash, Lawrie laughed and asked "He didn't drop them, did he?" Mind you, anyone remember Kennedy? Scotland had found a keeper we were told. Took my Glaswegian Father-in-law to Wembley in 1975 and he was cock-sure they were going to win until abut 7 minutes in when England were leading 2-0 through two soft goals. Not sure he ever spoke to me civilly again after that. Bugger. Sorry Whiteley
Right, that is the last time I check this page. I'll wait for a DTLW update thread on managers vacancy.
Lot of talk on Sky about managers leaving and being replaced....but no mention of Saints. Presumably they think it is all done and dusted as well. #strawclutching
Is it me Or do you like me get the impression the board are waiting to see who is also available...................
Or Hughes has said, “How ****ing much? You expect me to rebuild and buy a CB, winger, midfielder and Striker with a bag of magic beans?”
Hughes is the no risk answer....I really, really want a no risk answer....because I am a jelly fish. Whilst typing this I reviewed our recent managers...Pardew (decent season, cup), Adkins (need I say more), Poch (exciting play), Koeman (good times till the parting), Puel (no one liked his style, but 8th and a cup final) and finally MP2 (didn't suit us, lost the fans and needed replacing, but got us to an FA Cup semi-final). So we have had a decent row of managers and we shouldn't let MP2 blind us to that. What we haven't got now are those exciting players that earlier managers had to work with...so perhaps time for a pragmatic manager. And a bit of inspired player recruitment.
I think you have hit the nail on the head/have inside knowledge. The obvious thing is to say well done Mark, here is a 2 year contact, you've proved what you can do. Now we have got out of the ****, rather than a year or two of stability, they are going to try to be clever. Remember Nigel Pearson? Came in and saved us from going down to League One to play the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Huddlesfield, binned him and we got the Dutch experiment. The rest is history. What we need is a manager that will keep us now playing the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Huddlesfield.....
Someone on Saintsweb saying Hughes all done and will be confirmed today. May be rubbish but something to see us through the day.
Man .........actually I dont know...........the delay in announcing sparky is just making me suspicious. Especially after my conversation with my contact.........
