Yeah but mine were from Shearer/Batty/Ince/Platt/Scholes era so I'm guessing 98 World Cup - which I don't remember watching. Also had a few of the Corinthian prostar figures, Shearer, Neville, Seaman etc.

Didn't Campbell get the disallowed goal, from a corner? And Shearer was penalised for jumping up with his elbows?

And Beckham got sent off because a moment of petulance was exploited by cheating Argie git Diego Simeone.

FRance '98 was the last decent tournamnet that england had

The michael owen wonder goal against argentina sticks in the memory

Glenn Hoddle to be fair assembled a really good side
but then shortly after the tournament he said that disabled people were being punished for sins from previous lives and quite rightly was sacked

2002 was OK, we lost in the QFs to Brazil, 1-0 up but Beckham bottled a tackle just before half-time for 1-1 and then Ronaldinho lobbed Seaman. We would have had Turkey in the semis.....

No, and I never read it either. Why would you think that? Because of the cheating Argie comment? Don't go all previous on me, Simeone's spectacular play acting was calculated to get Beckham sent off for an inocuous gesture , so clearly cheating.

As for 'Argie', that is no more insulting than Brit imo, or wasn't intended to be. And a lot better than what Sir Alf Ramsey called Simeone's countrymen decades before.

Not a world cup but Euro 2004 was one we could have won, and still think we would have if Rooney didn't get injured.

Getting twitchy about Hughes now...after all he said he had a meeting on Wednesday and it is now Thursday lunchtime. <yikes> Hoping this is just typical Saints fan paranoia and the final document is being prepared.

They better not end up going for the cheap option again, last season proved how much a wrong managerial appointment can affect a squad, Puel probably wasn't right long term either but we were never threatened by relegation.

I remember watching that in school. They put a big screen on in the sports hall and we all sat on the floor and watched it in there. I think it was on early morning? I'm basing that on a vague recollection that we had bacon butties too.

Wenger's available....surprised no one has mentioned him. TBH, if it isn't Hughes then I want a managerial signing of epic proportions.

About 9.30 am. I watched it in the pub - they were all open for the occasion. No bacon butties though.

I recall another England-Argentina game when Owen dived and got a penalty when in close proximity to a certain MP1.

As The Sun might have said, Gotcher! Hook line and sinker, mate. It was only a wind up.

The look on Batistuta's face annoyed me. Really liked him as a player, but he had that look of "hah, got you, sucker". Poor Beckham was so vilified. Loved it when he smashed that penalty four years later after Poch had hacked down Owen - or Owen dived however you want to call it!

    <laugh> Never a dive...

Some of us have not forgotten the Hand of God either (or Maradonna's other goal in that game. Possibly the best goal in the history of the sport).
