I can understand why he is leaving, the first squad is brimming with fast, direct strikers who knows where the net is

Close this thread or change its title to transfers out. We are skint and have no money for investment.

Rose is off, though. He has no relationship with MP.

I dont believe anyone would buy him.

He should never have been bought for that stupid money to support a manager like MP2. He needs gone so Hughes can choose a player that will work for him IMO.

If Hughes is made manager. I’d happily let him judge him. He knew a thing or two about being a good striker and I bet he can tell from training every day.

Carrillo seems like a good prospect for a loan out. Send him to a fairly good Championship squad; he might have the attributes to score there, and we might be able to parlay that into recouping the majority of our cost.

Desent idea, it's worked for Newcastle with their dodgy centre forward who went to Fulham this season

Played the last few games of the season though, which is why it’s rumoured he’s made the World Cup squad and Bertrand hasn’t.

Also rumours of Rose to United with Shaw going the other way. If that happened Spurs wouldn’t need Bertrand.

We haven’t seen enough of Carrillo to know if he sucks or not. I would suggest we have seen way more than we need to know that Redmond and Long suck. And Gabbiadini is hanging by a thread.

Not saying I think we have to hang on to Carrillo, but I do think he is being scapegoated. Probably because no one wants to admit how awful the strikers they have grown accustomed to rooting for were.

Someone is going to have to go, maybe 2 or even 3. Since we appear to not want to spend, then the decision may come down to price as much as performance.

Not sure where the idea has come from that we aren't going to spend. The club has never been one of those clubs who sound off about the actual amount we will spend...alerts other teams to your plans and disappoints fans if you don't land the fish you are trying for. And has it always worked out for those fans who show off about all that lovely money?

However, teams like us are constrained by that fair play bollocks....which has no measurable effect on bigger sides. Ralph mentioned that again yesterday. And fans always forget the hidden costs to having players above what you actually pay. So there will be some wheeler dealing with players going out on loan and others sold. And you can't always sell the ones you want to.

There is no way that Mark Hughes (or A. N. Other) will take the job and be told that he has to work with what he has. And despite being slow to react, there is no way that the management haven't seen what we have seen watching the team this year.

In summary, will we spend money...yes. Will we spend as much as fans want...no. And that will happen every season.

Well he should have a start point of £55m to spend, seeing as we’re spending from player sales and we still have that from VVD.

If Ralph was telling the truth, of course...

Ralph is too wise to be caught out in an actual lie...which is why he doesn't answer things directly, but paints pictures in very broad strokes.

Southampton have identified Celta Vigo winger Pione Sisto, who has been named in Denmark's provisional World Cup squad on Monday, as a potential summer replacement for Boufal. He has a £36million buy out clause.

Our leadership keeps mentioning the 'fair play bollocks' because they know that i) fans don't like it, and ii) it's really difficult to understand, so it's a great dodge. Throw out "well, and then there are the wage rules..." and you can suggest that you're being hamstrung by forces beyond your control without ever specifying.

Beyond that, it only applies to wages. Because of the Byzantine manner in which profit on player sales works, you're actually heavily incentivized to spend big on transfer fees. They don't count against you, but you amortize the transfer fee over the length of the contract, so if you buy a player on a five-year deal for 40m tomorrow, and sell them in two years for 40m, you have turned a profit of 16m, and that 16m counts as the 'club's own revenues' (alongside such things as European money, matchday earnings, commercial, and whatever else you can make money from that isn't the league's TV revenues), which can be used to increase your wage cap. I recognize that this makes no earthly sense, but I swear that it's true, because accounting is sorcery.

So if we were genuinely fighting the limits (and we aren't, because our profit on player sales is already pretty huge), we'd be clearing out the lesser players to free up wages, which matter a lot under the regulations, while spending big transfer fees. We, uh, have done the opposite: we spend smaller amounts in transfer fees, and have seen our wage bill bloat because we now have a lot of handsomely-compensated backup-quality offerings. We're still not in any great danger of the limits, but our approach belies our stated concerns nonetheless.

And last summer we made an issue of getting players on longer contracts to hold on to them....and that means compensating them highly for giving up freedom of movement and increasing their price if they are sold. The downside being that they are harder to shift if you want to get rid. That is why we got angry with Virgil....because he still thought he could just go. I think that is what Ralph was talking about when he said we'd been too ambitious (though we are now looking at sheep's entrails here :))....we had decided to keep all our players and make the next step forward, though that would have worked better if it meant we kept the likes of Mane and Pelle.

Of course, he could have meant we had been too ambitious in plans abroad....the training schools in US for instance.

Get Promes/an equivalent in and we then move from there. See if Les was all talk. Got cash to spend and need to improve forwards and CB.
