60 points on the board? Think that's a bit steep. Another Top 8 finish would do me, and help the team reastablish itself a bit.
It should be the goal. May not get it, but SFC achieved that under Koeman, and if SFC are to aspire beyond survival, then I think it is essential.
Footer really is a funny old game? I'm guessing if you'd have asked anyone on this board, or in the wider Saints community at the start of the season just ended - 'Would you like Mark Hughes as manager'? Nobody would have said yes please. Now we are all calling for him to become the permanent manager [me included].
There is some truth in the idea that certain managers fit certain clubs, and right now Hughes looks a good fit for us. Alan Ball, Glenn Hoddle, Gordon Strachan and Ronald Koeman all did quite well at Saints despite failing elsewhere. Edit; in fact, none of them should ever have left.
I can see Hughes being with us for a few years, which would be a pleasant change, as long as he's not crap that is.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating and even though it may not have looked great having tried a little we've decided it was quite tasty and asked for more. Better than the Pudim we had before anyway
The players have responded to him, Hughes obviously feels at home here, the fans want him. Absolute no brainer for me.
Was clear to see that the whole attitude of the players (well most), changed when Hughes came in. Definitely deserves a chance to push on. Think he'll probably have the best squad of players to work with since Man City days. His 3 home games also had the best atmosphere for the last couple of years, so agree with Hojbjerg, that us fans can play a big part next season at St Marys.
I couldn`t live anywhere not beside the seaside. Now Savannah...... Anyway, I hope Sparky gets the job. He`d have all summer and a full window to deal with (unlike Claude!)
Nah, I’d have to test them out first in a ‘B’ game, let Hoddle run the show, score four goals then tell him I’d rather play Rob Lee. Seriously, he can **** right off. Not that it still bothers me...
Is it because I live nowhere near Southampton that I don't get the Hoddle thing? Having been a truly wonderful player, then blown the England job, where he did OK, he made Saints into an exciting team to watch. He left them 5 points off a CL place. We'd kill for that at the moment. I don't blame him for going to Spurs when they came calling. Imagine if our Michael had turned his back on his 'orses and had become a manager with a similar CV. Do you think he'd have thought twice about taking the job at Saints if he'd been managing a similarly middle of the table team at the time? Hoddle bled Spurs, and was unfortunate to be one of the many who went through the revolving door which kept going until they got Poch as far as I can see. Oh yes. Sparky is about to sign. Toys being gently returned to their homes; the pram is back in the loft. And breathe.
Nah, you missed my point. I don’t begrudge him going to Spurs, it was overlooking MLT for the ‘98 World Cup. Unforgivable.
