TBH...we are panicking early...probably because lighting the blue touchpaper is our fall back position. The league finished Sunday and less than a week before we had no idea what league we would be in next season. It is now Tuesday...hardly call it faffing about yet. There are discussions to be had even if Hughes is the one.

I think the only sticking point will be the length of the contract - I think the board will want a 1 year rolling and MH rightfully will want a 3 year deal. I feel the board don't want to deviate from their well trodden path (that has failed twice now), but know they have to. Tricky one for them actually.

Manages in a league where the standard of coaching is woeful. Cross

Edit; the rest of his record is pretty impressive. So I'm guessing the reason he is in Atlanta may be because he doesn't want to cross the Atlantic every time he visits his family in Argentina?

At my age I don't have time to wait and see if I need to panic. Like free bus passes, premature panicking is a right for the elderly!

Annoyingly, this is a good point and well made. I will try to regain some self control.

Yes, there may be reasons as to why he's that side of the pond, which would be my only real concern with him.

I just look at this section of Wikipedia and sigh -

Gerardo Martino prefers to play a very high pressing and an attacking style of football. At Barcelona, Martino continued the club's preferred style of play tiki-taka along with his own tactics. All of Martino's teams have the same distinguishable traits: they play attack-minded football, they are creative and the style is based on quick passing. In addition, Martino's teams also pressure high up the pitch, play out from the back and depend on their youth systems

To be fair, given the choice between Atlanta and Southampton I know where I'd live....

PS That may be influenced by the fact my daughter and 2 grandsons are there :)

Most of the players are there because they aren't good enough to make it anywhere else. The exceptions being former PL, La Liga or Serie A players getting one last payday in the twilight of their careers, or up and coming Central Americans hoping to use MLS as a stepping stone to better things.

Not sure about the coaches. Patrick Vierra's over there, but if it goes well for him I expect he'll soon be looking at a job in Europe. After all, the club he coaches (NYCFC) is in the same ownership as Man City.

Don't. The most embarrassing thing is that my son-in-law voted for him.

If that had happened before they got married, perhaps she would be here now and not 'Living the dream' in the US :)

Yeah I worded it wrong, should've been "same reason most of them who are there who could be elsewhere, $$$$ and lifestyle"

Would personally love Nuno Santo, but Hughes deserves his chance.

What is the objective? The aim of the manager has to be to get 60 points on the board at the end of the season. Anything less and it sounds like the club are preparing for another season of struggle along with another 11 PL clubs. I exclude Everton and Wolves, as I think they will aim for top 6.
