As the last time you played Accrington Stanley was in 1924, I doubt many on here would have ever been - so something to look forward to i suppose
How do we feel now guys, after getting to the playoffs and bundled out in straight sets... not that we expected much throughout the season anyway. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel or still unknown departure of the cancer ? How many of you guys went to the 2nd leg ?
We were not good enough, and would have got battered in the Championship. There are 2 areas of immediate concern - Losing key players from an already weak side. Amos and da Silva. The fragmentation of the Valley under this takeover deal. Why does the Virus want to retain the land around the ground, including the car park. It cannot be good news.
We need another rebuilding job. We had the chance to sign Amos during the season but it didn't happen. We need a new goalkeeper, right back, Left back, two central midfielders, two strikers and a centre half. The Takeover better happen soon otherwise we are ****ed.
It would be a positive sign of the new owner’s intentions if he moved quickly to make it worth Ben Amos’ while to stay. The best keeper we have had since Scott Carson. It’s going to be very difficult to replace him. In recent weeks Amos has made world class saves in every game.
Watching the half time analysis from Robinson I pointed out to Mr van Gerwen that there was somebody with a poorer taste in suits than him. He laughed.
Just a footnote on how difficult it can be to get out of League One... If Rotherham United beat Shrewsbury Town at Wembley in two weeks time, all three of the teams relegated from the Championship last season will have gone back up at the first attempt. In the two previous L1 seasons only one relegated Championship team won promotion back at the first attempt (Wigan in 2015 and Bolton in 2016) though both teams took an automatic promotion place. So in the past three League One seasons, out of the total of 6 automatic promotion places available (2 each season), 4 have been claimed by teams only relegated from the Championship the season before. Burton Albion and Sheffield United took the other two automatic places.
I think this would be the 1st time that the 3 relegated teams get promoted straight away. The gulf between the 1st divison and Championship seems to be getting bigger. This is down in part to the parachute payments, but also the investment (by predominantly overseas owners) into Championship teams chasing the mega-bucks payout of the premiership TV bonanza. The amount of money spent by Championship clubs on their squads this season was frighteneing https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...mpionship-spending-aston-villa-wolves-1428254
