If we had been playing a truly decent team we would have been taken to the cleaners by half time! We were shocking but Leeds could only muster 1 goal and despite Gradels constant diving and play acting they didn't really create a great deal. Once we subbed that useless **** Leadtwats and Jimmy and Scotland came on we were much better. Sonko was superb at the back, Delaney was his shocking self as usual and I thought that Murphy had a good game. I am happy with the 3 points there is a lot of improvement still needed but at least it was only Leeds that we played. A decent side would have tonked us yesterday!
A game of clichés to be honest, starting with; 'it was a game of two halves'. LUFC were the superior side in the first 45 minutes without doubt and deservedly went in at the break with the lead. Their disappointment must surely have been their inability to capitalise on this and only have the single goal to show for their efforts. The second half was of course categorised by the sending off, which changed things but, even before then ITFC were looking a much better proposition. The substitutions worked well and you have to hand it to Jason Scotland; his goal was magnificent and he set up the second and he was a real worry for Leeds to handle. From an Ipswich perspective you have to be honest and say we beat a team of 10 men. Nonetheless after recent results, a 'win is a win' and Leeds are always a good scalp and we desperately needed the 3 points. Their fans get a lot of criticism but, I thought they created a great atmosphere on Saturday and played their part. I wish a few other clubs would bring as many as they do. Despite our nervous first half display and inability to create anything, there were some bright spots over 90. The new signings are starting to show their quality. Cresswell is still impressing. The JET jury is still out for me but, hopefully in a more balanced side he will find his place. That said, Carson is a very worthy alternative and I'm happy seeing him out there. Sonko was just what the doctor ordered and looks like a quality signing, just where we needed it, a proper 'stitch in time'. Andrews now has 3 from 3 which by any standards is a good record. Murphy is hard working and looks to worry the defences and create space - he's a presence. If he carries on like this then Chopra will surely find more opportunity than he has been able to since the opening game. Bullard did very little but he definitely 'lifted the spirits' and we know what he is capable of once fit. That said, his two free kicks were horrors! Leadboots got substituted - the brightest of the bright spots!!! I've not been Scotland's biggest fan but you have to hand it to him. He made the difference and I have never seen him look so sharp - I take it all back! Well done Jason, even as a substitute you have to be my man of the match for your huge contribution, without which, we quite simply would not have won. A short break is going to really suit us now, especially off the back of a win. PJ has some time (he needs it!) to really get to grips with things and there may yet be more personnel joining. It's going to be a real struggle and mid table is the best we can aim for right now but, at least the Saints and Posh games came at the right end of the season and hopefully wont be repeated! On our day this side could be very very good. But even the best chefs can **** up good ingredients! Lets see what PJ is really made of now. (No budgies'; Delia does not qualify, I said best chefs not mere cooks!) Onwards and upwards but, I don't think we'll do an Icarus and reach the giddy heights this season. COYB
Tractor Tim great post, We should take a lot of positives from our performances and somewhere down the line we will go on a win streak, we have lost two games in which we dominated but the tides changed due to dubious sendings off Boro and You boys, also we outplayed West Ham and only just nicked a point, I feel once Becchio is back and Snoddy gets his fitness back we will be a force to be reckoned with, good luck the rest of the season and thanks for your sensible post.
I don't know why Ipswich fans are being so cocky about this win. I was at the game, and that was a really poor performance by Town even after the sending off. There's is such thing as being a sore loser and bitter about a result, but most Leeds fans on here have just been telling it how it is. You were incredibly lucky to win, and this result doesn't solve the problems at your club. First half you barely had an effort, and you look weak defensively. Carlos Edwards is clearly not a rightback, and never will be one. Against a half decent winger, he suffers and Gradel gave him trouble. The new CB Sonko is tall, so won a lot of headers against Leeds' small attack but isn't particulary good on the ground. The midfield was overrun by us, and upfront the new signing Murphy won a lot of headers, but you never looked like scoring. JET is really crap. He is really tall and strong but got beat in the air by Aidy White most of the time. If it wasn't for a incorrect sending off and a lucky deflection, you'd have lost this game. That's not being bitter, it's just true.
I think it's very true Best Fan and I'm certainly not arguing it differently to you at all. I was there too and your observations are not too far off the mark. The touble with the 'If' word is that we could all argue a different outcome to every single game 'If' only 'If'. The trouble with the 'If' word as I've said on here before is; "If your Auntie had bollocks, she'd be your Uncle". If you'd capitalised on your early superiority you'd have won the game. If Arsenal had a defence ........ Good luck for the rest of your season and hopefully you wont need to be using the 'If ' word too many times!
