Ooooo close...2nd today...I 'll settle for that. 1 bet yesterday - winner and 1 bet today...nice return overall.
Great result. Two years ago a big colt called Kesselring owned by Bob McCreery regularly emptied my pockets. Then McCreery gives up full ownership of a Champs Elysees filly with the dam being a sister to Kesselring. She wins the 1000G. Not all bad for Bob as he also has a sister to Billesdon Brook's dam who is good enough to run in the same race: Anna Nerium.
Sadly Bob died about 18 months ago. He interviewed me for the job I currently hold 16 years ago, he was Chairman of the organisation at the time. He had a heck of a bark on him but was a pussy cat underneath it all.
Refreshing result. Good trainer and jockey. Remember last season that filly won a Goodwood nursery from an impossible position with nowhere to go, always had ability but quirky and after her trial nobody could have seen that coming. Be interesting to see if she backs it up, I wouldnt bank on it.
He was truly an old school breeder, not many of his ilk left. http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/bob-mccreery-dies-at-86/ His father was commander of the Eighth Army in Italy in 1944-45, a heck of a thing to try to live up to!
66/1 Classic winners Be better playing the lottery than punting on that flat pish. As for that rubbish race last night Boris was telling us would be the race of the decade what a joke, horses running through a river of mud. Like Laytown races only muddier
Justify will be the highest rated 3yo in the world right now Beefy and quite possibly at the end of the season, so it wasnt bad. Just bad luck that it was the heaviest rain in the history of the race which knocked out a few of the best horses and made it a war of attrition right from the start. The pace was incredible and I think Obriens comments say it all, they didnt know what had hit them. No way Instilled Regard would have placed on a fast track, maybe thats why you are angry about the mud?
Just back from Newmarket , had a great day absolutely slaughtered . As usual the Mrs had three winners, I just wished I had a bundle on gifted master, absolutely pissed it. But saved the day.
Laurens ran an excellent race and the lass that does her won the best turned out cash as she looked really ready for the race. Apparently the Prix de Diane (French Oaks) is the target. The ground usually a little easier at Chantilly and she might be allowed to dictate there given the French preference is usually for a married-man’s gallop and a sprint in the straight.
You got an excellent SP on Wuheida. I just watched as I do not bet odds on but I assume the drift was down to people supporting the French filly once they had read in their papers that the trainer used to be Andre Fabre’s assistant. She looked brilliant and she won as easily as the form book suggested she would with just a five pound penalty for her two Group 1 wins. I am wondering if they have a Royal Ascot race in mind for her – drop back to a mile for the Duke Of Cambridge (formerly the Windsor Forest). The obvious mid-summer objective is the Nassau Stakes if they want to avoid taking on the boys. There are definitely races in her this year – just hope she will find some rivals so she is not odds on every race!
I would not be so quick to write her off just because of the starting price. Hannon ran a horse in the Nell Gywn a few years ago and it was only placed, but when Sky Lantern won the 1000 Guineas, she was 9/1 because she had been a top two year old. Billesdon Brook travelled well through the race, she picked up when asked and there did not appear to be any hard luck stories. The race time was perfectly acceptable, so it will be interesting to see where she goes next and what price the bookies put up. I expect that the BBC will be deluged with complaints as in the sports round up on BBC 5 Live, their correspondent Cornelius Lysaght started with the headline that Sean Levey is the first black rider to win a British Classic. He must have broken some political correctness rule with that one...
Im not writing her off at all, my comment has nothing to do with her starting price. She is a quirky filly, she was good today but I wouldnt be convinced of her backing it up or building on it. I wouldnt be so confident as to say she wont win another race this season a la Wings Of Eagles, but it wouldnt surprise me if she didnt.
