Nah I think it's more to do with Roma were overloading and not defending (so they always had plenty of people high up the field). You boys up top then failed to punish them in the 2nd half constantly messing up the 3 on 4s or 4 on 4s. They were taking loads of risks and pressing you high up which forces you to lose the ball but could go wrong easily as a couple of passes and you could be in.
Can we just bore Chelsea off or just beat them and rest for the final. We could lose 4th and steal it back via the CL. Not a route I'd like to explore
Bring on your Internazionale Bring on your Roma by the score Barcelona, Real Madrid who the **** you trying to kid Cos Liverpool are the team that we adore Get in boys !!
not even in theory. In practice what happened? A) as third seeds we got a great draw and ended up favorites for the group before it kicked off. The draw almost assured us of 2nd and we won group as seville were a shadow of their former selves. If we had got a giant as no 1 seeds and a no 2 seed of equal level to us... well.. b) we got a much easier last 16 tie than others. Thats not to say we wouldn't have won when in good form at that point but we absolutely walked all over porto when harder teams were possible. First off point A helped as we got first place and that means we played second placed teams. Basel Bayern Munich Juventus Shakhtar Donetsk FC Porto Real Madrid We got porto. there was a 50/50 chance of playing a top side there c) we played excellent v city. we were tactically good at home v city and city made blunders in formation and approach and kept making them. We killed them. Its fair to say city have struggled with LFC for a few years now. d) We avoid bayern and real and get roma in SF and are 5-0 up after 75mins. Frnakly after that to end up 7-6 is a but poor but our injuries and tired legs are showing. We are excellent at home. nobody likes coming to our ground and getting chased all over the park on a tight pitch and we've scored lots of goals. Away not so good, lots of goals conceded at times and our press goes missing but there you go. For me this season is all about attack. the rest are functional players but its more than just that its that they cannot defend as a team and are panicked under pressure so we play on front foot or not at all and go on spells when the whole team attacks and we score enough to kill sides. once we fall off that or we are 5 attacking and 5 sitting back its too easy get by the initial press and the ball just goes up park and we concede So for me all 11 have to be in for the attack or the defence. If one half of the team are doing their own thing we fall apart.
no. why? 1. cheslea are at home and won't allow us to sit off and so they will beat us if we do 2. rest for final is not good. theres 2 weeks between games. If we rest v brighton we will end up looking rusty on final day. IMo we need to get through cheslea somehow.. anyway we can. Recover for a week and blitz brighton. win that final day, take CL by 1 point or on GD or whatever it takes and then prepare for final. Its too much to ask to expect us to go out v cheslea and score 4 goals so we are never defending a 0-0.
The point is we were not getting back in good positions so while the front 3 plus 2 cms might pile on they were not back so there was massive gaps. Klopp is simply unable to stcik up a 4-5-1 formation signal and have is troops ala mourinho fall into position and defend. Klopp style is attack til game is over and score can be anything mourinhos is get one goal, seal it up and maybe another will come but at 2-0 its complete lock down and straight jacket. they are diametrically opposite styles at this point. both men could do better by learning a bit off each other.. I thought tactically in QF v city at home we were tactically sound in formation but since then... not one game have we really seen all 11 do the same thing for 90mins
Horrible stat. We lost the Europa final to Sevilla, who were experts in that competition having won it the two previous years. They beat us to get their third in a row We play Real Madrid in the Champions League final, who are experts in this competition having won it the two previous years.....
i'm feeling a tad fragile this morning for some reason. weird game but who cares Kiev here we come. Really wish we could learn to manage the game but hey until then lets just enjoy the ride.
We didn't press as high as we normally do. We need to take the psychology into account as well. We didn't go into that game needing to win - only to avoid a heavy defeat - and it showed. At every stage there was a feeling of we just need to see this out, but that is something we're not very good at. Also, we shouldn't forget Roma are a decent team, and apart from one catastrophic error they didn't do much wrong. All those saying Real will screw us if we play like that against them are missing the important point - we won't play like that against them. It's a one-off game and our attitude will be very different.
I was in Greece at the time getting married brilliant atmosphere for semi and final.Ouzo and faux champagne flowed them 2 nights.
I'd hope so. While it's been better defensively, the defensive substitution to protect a lead has been a gaping Achilles heel and if we have a lead with 10-20 minutes to go, I'd hope no need to rest anybody will avoid Klavan getting on. I think Klopp will know he doesn't need to risk going into extra time with that.

Yes. Our defence-minded substitutions seem to backfire all too often. Although the defence has improved, it still isn't anywhere near solid enough on its own. We defend best from the front, and when we sacrifice attackers for more defenders we invite the opponents on, and all the frailties are exposed.
The way we play means our midfield is knackered big time by 70 mins. The major issue of late has been we do not have options to help the midfield out. We have lost Coutinho Ox Can and Lallana. These are players who would have been very good at ball retention in the last 10 mins of such games. Plus they have the quality to still hurt you. Even the alternatives for our front 3 are not sufficient. Origi would have been a much better option having to come on say compared to Solanke or Ings. He was already averaging 10 goals a season vs the 1 goal Ings and Solanke have. It would really be nice if Can and Lallana can make the bench for the final. That way we can hopefully weather any late storms should we be under the cosh.
Reminds of when I was in NZ some years back. I went to see some enormous great tree that was a thousand year old or something, on the North island. Woman serving at the kiosk said 'You are from England? I won 100k dollars and sent them my bank details, and I haven't heard from them since I paid the 200 dollar arrangement fee. Do you know them?'. Think it must have been the Scouse accent...
