Kempton 19.15. What a cracking race. If you looked at just one of the runners you could be excused for thinking, surely this one can win this Class 3 £9k race. Then you look at the others and you could argue the same for each one. It will probably boil down to which one, if any, have been primed for the race. No bet in this race unless there is inside info available and/or a significant market move
Just looked at the odds for the above race. Not sure why Magillen is as much as 28/1. Btn a nose on debut. Then a month later btn just under 11l by Churchill in the Chesham stakes. Dettori rode him that day and only 4 of the 13 runners were more fancied in the betting. So I guess Charlie Hills thought something of him. Not run since and it's 682 days since that run in the Chesham. I see he has been gelded and is still with the same trainer so, presumably, he must be showing something. He has only had the 2 runs so he could be looking for a nice handicap mark. I wouldn't back him but I think he could be well worth watching as a possible notebook entry
I think the yards other one Jallota is the one to be on Ron. Bugger of a race to pick one though and I'm not having a bet
Wouldn't it be sickening though if, after the race, Hills was saying "Well Magillen has been giving him 10lbs and running away from him at home so we thought we might have something"
Morning, Ron, and nice to see your brain working so sharply this early in the day. I know nothing of Magillen, but - and this isn't exactly inside information, but it's fairly well-connected - I know that top-weight Jallota was much fancied for the Richard III* listed race at Leicester this last Saturday. I was all tuned up to back it, but it was taken out early in the morning because of (allegedly) unsuitably heavy ground. Ryan Moore was booked to ride, and there did seem to be considerable stable optimism overnight. Its appearance today (first time on polytrack, if I've read the record correctly) looks to me very like a consolation-prize effort to cash in while the beast is fit, and it's my view that Doyle rides this Kempton track as well as anyone. It's currently a suspiciously-unanimous 4-1 across the board, which isn't ungenerous, and if it can run to within a pound or two of its 109-rating, it should be able to win this. That said, they don't all take to polytrack, and I think it would be sensible to watch the betting until they're at the post; if it doesn't drift, it should be worth a bet. *Its withdrawal also prevented my posting a carefully-honed joke about being drawn in the car park. Racing can be a cruel mistress sometimes.
Kevin Ryan had 5 runners yesterday, 2 won at 16/1 and 12/1, 1 placed at 7/1. Today he has just 1 runner, Havana Star in N'cstle 5.55. quite positive about it in his stable report, which I've mislaid, but he did say he hoped it would 'step forward' from seasonal debut (finished 6th) in this seemingly competitive race. Oddschecker notes that the horse looks capable of further improvement. Was 12s in several places half hour ago, just checked and best bog is now 11s, 14s non-bog in a place. 9 runner h'cap.
Not much of interest to me in the cards this afternoon, may have a look at Kempton later ( I hope to visit that racecourse later this month ) This did take my interest, however: https://www.racingpost.com/news/new...ky-sports-racing-following-atr-rebrand/329561 And now I'm officially counting down - One Day in May, Thursday 10th, look out Chester Races

The Tote truly baffles me at times. I know it's a pool based system which dictates the odds, but they do pay some ridiculously short returns at times. The 2.10 Yarmouth being a prime example in the place only market. For a place the winner returned 1.8. The same as for the win! 11/10 SP The 2nd paid 1.2. Bet fair paid 3.05 ! 9/2 SP
Spancil Hill over at Kilbeggan. Backed into favouritism, claimer sets off mid division, gradually works his way to the back over the first circuit, hangs out the back until 2 out, finishes with a rattle but half a length down. Incompetent claimer or bent as fook. No pocket talk just interested observer.
