Good to keep planning ahead. If Godfrey is as good as we think he is, this could be his successor down the line.
I was talking to a fellow fan whilst having a pre-match beer yesterday and he said that he'd been watching a Shrewsbury game on Sky and he deservedly got MotM!! Edit - From today's offering on MFW - In addition to Wesley, I’d argue as many as eight of yesterday’s starting XI have either a red cross or a question mark next to their name. In my fearful, possibly overly-negative, eyes only Grant Hanley and Mario Vrancic are definites to be here in August. The three loanees, who I’ll come to in a bit, will almost certainly be returning to sender. Timm Klose, Nelson Oliveira and James Maddison, each for very different reasons, will likely be departing this parish. And I have a nasty feeling that if the right offer came in for either Josh Murphy or Jamal Lewis, or possibly both, Steve Stone and Stuart Webber would be forced to have a long, hard think about it. Such is the financial hole we find ourselves. There’s a flip side to everything though and there are already some bodies in the house who will fill some of the aforementioned voids. Vrancic was superb yesterday and tasked with being part of the midfield ballast minus Alex Tettey or A N other warrior next to him, he simply shone. His reading of the game is such that he doesn’t need to thunder into a tackle to turn win possession back. Instead, he’s clever, gets a toe in when it’s needed, and then uses it wisely. And his range of passing is right up there; even Crooky would be impressed. Onel Hernadez too, in his brief cameo, did precisely what he has done in virtually every single one of his cameos. He whetted the appetite. I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing him with a few months of Championship experience and a full pre-season under his belt. #itsnotalldoomandgloom PS - Cantwell (hereafter known as 'TC') seems to be showing excellent progress at Fortuna Sittard!!! YES please!!!!! http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-exit-likely-russell-martin-1-5497095 #canhetakenaismithaswell
Funny how that article seems to disagree with the title. As I'm reading it, it's that he expects to do pre-season with Norwich, rather than it being a done deal that he joins Rangers. I think we'd all agree it's time for him to move on, but it seems a shame to focus on the player he is now, and not the player he has been for us before.
I agree DH. Looking ahead, it's great to see how well Todd Cantwell has done on his loan to Fortuna Sittard, helping them gain promotion to the top division. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-cantwell-promotion-winner-at-fortuna-sittard-1-5497466 His chance to kick on now.
I've been impressed with his performances when playing for the Under 23s and can't have been easy for him in a foreign country etc. Edit - I've now got a half share in an ST for next season - £338 for a '65+'!!! #rudenotto
That's more like it. As long as its the flat fee, with add-ons on top of it. Not 10 Million up front and 15m if he scores 60 England Goals. 5M if he makes 30 starts in his first season, etc. etc. https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footba...erpool-man-city-want-30m-maddison_324753.html I also see they snuck in at the end about Josh possibly leaving.
IMO (and several other fans who go home games) wouldn't be too upset!! Edit - I've just seen that NCFC and Tettey are still 'in discussion' over a new contract - http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...lex-tettey-may-extend-canaries-stay-1-5498180
Let's just hope if he is going, that all these rumoured clubs are serious and we can have ourselves a proper bidding war.
He's had an up and down season. But so has everyone apart from Madders, and even he's in a bit of a dip now. He has raw potential and one of our own. He's not being linked to 3 of 4 Premiership clubs because there's nothing there. Only going to be replaced with a Watkins or a German 3rd tier player. So little in our squad now I feel affection for. Can't think of anyone else coming trough who would step up. We have released Middleton, Sold Jacob, when Josh goes, I can't remember mention of any Wingers looking exciting in the youth at the moment.
I think it depends on what Farke intends to do with the team, predominantly Josh I think has been played too narrow and not to his strengths. He has looked better when in tandem with Hernandez and we have used a bit more width. If Farke plans to play that way then I'd like to see him given a chance to shine. Yes he will remain inconsistent, but less so played to his strengths, he also gets goals, 11 is respectable for any midfielder, but one in a side that has struggled for goals, looks tough to replace, particularly with our budget. If we sell him and Madders, that's 26 out of 48 goals (Not 100% sure all 26 were in league, source not clear). Not easy to replace. Next season looks a frightening prospect. Bah!
20 league goals for the pair of them, that's a Grant Holt type striker needed. £30 million for Madders? We'd bite their hands off, quite rightly in our position. Spent wisely, it could all work out ok.
Spent wisely is the thing. We have been in a “he’s cheap, it’s a 50/50 risk, so why not” situation. Another Srbeny isn’t going to cover the goals lost.
FML - Jayessemi (sp) who's out on loan ATM had shown potential and isn't Stieperman more suited as a winger?? Yes, I accept that neither are anything to get excited about, but we'll just have to wait and see how much of any transfer fee for JM is given to DF. #dontexpectmuch
A continued reluctance to accept the reality of our financial situation. Even if we managed to break even this year - and I doubt if that will be achieved - £30m will only cover last years loss and further substantial budget savings will have to be made next season as we lose the parachute payment. Even if they followed your advice what ' spend big ' striker would be available within our new wage structure? Another Srbenny, a punt on a lower league striker who has scored goals for a few seasons ( like Grant Holt was ) or a striker on loan is all we can afford. We are in a financial hole and the sooner some fans accept that reality the less disappointed they will be and before we have the suggestion that new owners or Manager would be the answer to our problems can I point out that 4 of the Clubs currently involved in the relegation scrap have wealthy owners and have also replaced their Manager this season.
Bang on regarding splurges, Our reality is that anyone who might be valued at anything inxs of £4m will likely be able to demand a wage that we simply will not stretch to. So even if all £30m were available to Weber, I can't see a big signing coming in. With that said, big signings are relative, if we can sign a 2nd tier German striker for £3m, he might have a better chance than Srbeny of hitting the ground running. £3-4m may well be our exceptional star signings, and £0-1000000 our norm. Regards the manager, I still don't know if he is the right man for us, his limited; pedigree, experience and what I've seen so far leave me unconvinced. He should still get time to show some improvement, whether that time is 2 months, 4 months or 6 years depends very much on results and for me some indication that he will get the ball moving more quickly. Too much more of the tepid slow passing and non-existent movement infront of the ball will surely do for him, as without Maddison we are likely to be without a match winner. We cannot know what would have happened had we have replaced Farke at Xmas, but I find it hard to imagine we could have done worse with what I still believe was a squad plenty talented enough to have made the playoffs. We were above Millwall and close enough to 6th in January to have a chance. I would welcome new owners only if they are sensible. I don't want the club indebted to 10's of millions, I think with Weber we have the right path. The path could be smoother with greater resources. But for now I just want to see where things go, even under these budgetary restrictions, others have succeeded, we can too. Bah!
Absolutely Spot On 1950!! There appears to be a reluctantce by the younger posters (I'm assuming that FML and DD fall into that category) and us older (and wiser???) older posters who are more willing to accept our financial situation and UNLESS we can unearth another Grant Holt/Jamie Vardy, we're going to struggle to find a prolific striker that we'd all LOVE to see at NCFC!! #wakeupandsmellthecoffee Edit - I'm NOT picking on anyone, but just trying to explain it as I see our predicament. PS - Only just read your post General and #totallyagree. SW/DF have to be given at least until Xmas to see what they can do.
Oi less of the old dear boy! I'm not sure to about your statement regarding a prolific striker. For me we had 1 maybe 2 this season, but our system failed horribly to get goals out of them and for much of the season even create chances. Next season the excusses dry up a little, farke has a style, which he has amended and adjusted for the championship, I don't think he's got it right yet, but any strikers bought should be under the understanding that they will fit his plans and I think we should be expecting at least one to reach double figures, I can't see that being Srbeny, so Weber needs to find the right Rabbit. I think you might be picking on someone, directly refering to people with assumptions and suggesting you and other oldies to have wiser heads? I agree to an extent regarding Xmas, but would you want Farke still there at Xmas if we lose our first 10 matches and the football is still; slow, laboured and goal/chance shy? Or no visible progression? At what point can you stop writing poor form as bedding in of new players etc? I doubt it will be that bad, after ten games I think we'll be midtable and continue to look short of the required tempo to beat teams regularly and be resident in the top 6. But should that be good enough? Bah!
As someone who considers himself young and wise , I'm not sure age is a factor in opinions. I think it's very easy to look at the money in/out of the club in transfer fees and wonder where it's all going. The £50m+ annual wage bill is the unfortunate answer.
