With the 2017/18 season soon to come to it's end inevitably focus will switch to the summer transfer window - and the World Cup this year, which I wont be watching - so here is a thread to discuss transfers in the off-season. To start with, Pompey have been linked with Irish Under 21 International (6 caps) Ronan Curtis and are reportedly already in official negotiations with his current club: https://www.independent.ie/sport/so...al-ronan-curtis-from-derry-city-36829407.html.
Derry City's manager has rubbished the rumour that Pompey have made a move for Curtis and claims the move would be entirely wrong for the player at this time: https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...pompey-move-for-derry-winger-curtis-1-8472062
Jackett admits Curtis is a player he's aware of but doesn't confirm if he's made an approach for him and says nothing is likely to happen until May. He also wants to get any transfer dealings done by the first of July: https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...e-outlines-pompey-recruitment-plans-1-8472209
Derry City's manager Kenny Shels certainly wants to keep hold of Curtis. He rubbished the story linking his player with a move to Pompey yesterday and today he's told Curtis to find a new agent: https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...mpey-target-should-find-a-new-agent-1-8472879 his position has changes slightly from ruling the transfer out completely "...I can’t see it happening. It’s the wrong club at the wrong time....I can say it quite categorically – Ronan Curtis will not be going to Portsmouth..." to saying it's happen now but he wont rule it out later: "...he’ll not be going to Portsmouth at this moment in time. I’m not saying he’ll never go to Portsmouth but the speculation came from the agent – totally..." but you can see that Curtis is a player he really doesn't want to lose. In other news, Leyton Orient's manager Justin Edinburgh has responded to rumours linking his striker Macauley Bonne with Pompey, Burton Albion and Shrewsbury: https://www.burtonmail.co.uk/sport/.../leyton-orient-manager-responds-after-1492938 saying he's had no contact from those clubs and wouldn't welcome any because he sees Bonne as an important part of his plans for next season. Having started this thread I did not think I would be relaying a story about Kenny Jackett himself but here it is; Jackett has been linked with the job at Ipswich: https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/33611Former Pompey boss Paul Cook is the favorite to succeed Mick McCarthy at Portman Road
The News looks into Ronan Curtis's history: https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...s-potential-to-play-in-championship-1-8473339
Pompey are considering a permient move for Anton Walkes, and have an option to do so in his current loan agreement: https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...mull-over-permanent-stay-for-loanee-1-8475507
Youngster Theo Widdrington is leaving Pompey at the end of this season. He may well join Havant & Waterlooville where he was on loan this season, making 23 appearances scoring three goals from midfield.
Theo would be good for H&W - especially now Conference - not a big step down and keeps him in the shop window - difficult with Ben Close and Adam May already in CM ho both look very useful.
Would you not argue it is a failure on the manager's part in terms of recruit to keep having to buy new players year after year?
Kenny Jackett has played down supposed interest in left-back Lee Brown. The 27-year-old Bristol Rovers defender has announced he is leaving the club at the season's end. Up for grabs on a free transfer, Brown has established himself as a hugely popular figure at the Memorial Ground, making 319 appearances and scoring 22 times. The former QPR trainee, who has won two promotions with the Pirates, has revealed he favours moving closer to London. It is an availability prompting a link with Fratton Park - but Jackett has scotched such rumours. please log in to view this image
In terms of the time is takes to get to Bristol and London, I would say it is minimal when comparing Bristol and Portsmouth.
If he were to jump ship, and if the miraculous happened and Ipswich got promoted back the PL, he would be the first to achieve 3 successive promotions with 3 different clubs. Cannot see him doing it to be honest, even for a bigger salary. He just needs to look at the situation and realise Ipswich are marooned as a mid-table Championship side for the foreseeable future.
Teenage Duo Offered Pompey Deals. please log in to view this image ......... DAN SMITH................... ..MATT CASEY............................ Pompey have handed third year scholarships to two of their academy players. Matt Casey and Dan Smith – who are both aged 18 – have been given the chance to extend their Blues deals. Towering centre-back Casey and striker Smith both grew up locally and have appeared on the bench for the first team this season. Academy manager Mark Kelly said: “It’s good news for both of them and they thoroughly deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. “We’ve got an integrated group here at Pompey, so the manager’s seen a lot of them on the training pitch. “There have been times this season when they’ve been around the first team, while they’ve also played a lot of under-23 football this season and done very well at that level. “Dan’s a big, strong boy who gets around the pitch and has started to score goals on a really consistent basis. “Matt’s probably been more proficient on the ball than in the air, which is perhaps a surprise for someone who’s six foot eight. “We’ve been working with him on adding some aggression and he’s looked more capable when he’s stepped up a level and played against guys who are more his size.” Jordan Brooks, Jack Chandler, Jack Collins and Matt Mayes will leave the club when their scholarships expire this summer and we wish them all every success for the future. Kelly said: “Football’s all about getting out there again and finding your level after these moments of disappointment. “We can only take certain people so far in the process, but we’re always here to support those guys who haven’t been offered a deal.”
Nicke Kabamba has announced his Pompey departure. The striker is set to be released by the Blues, who have opted not to offer him a new contract. please log in to view this image Bit of a shame he didn't make it at Fratton Park - could be a good signing for either the Hawks, or Aldershot perhaps.
I hope he goes on to get success at whatever level he ultimately suits him best. Good luck to the guy and very nice words despite the disappointment.
Pompey chasing League Two striker Mohamed Eisa please log in to view this image Pompey are reportedly chasing Cheltenham Town striker Mohamed Eisa. According to Gloucestershire Live, Kenny Jackett has his eye on the Sudan-born talent. But Eisa has also attracted interest from the likes of Paul Cook's League One champions Wigan and promotion-chasing Rotherham, as well as a number of Premier League and Championship clubs. The 23-year-old has completed his maiden season in the Football League and was a big hit. He scored 23 goals for the Robins in League Two, finishing as the division's joint-second top goalscorer, along with former Blues striker Marc McNulty. However, the former Dartford marksman likely won't come cheap. He's under contract at Whaddon Road until 2020 and is valued at around £1.5m by chairman Paul Baker. There has reportedly been one verbal offer made for Eisa from a League One club but it falls well short of Cheltenham's asking price.
