I don't see how a trainer having 14 runners in a race is good for the sport and how that adds to the excitement of a race. In the bet365 Gold cup today the trainer with the most runners is 2 and there are 20 runners represented by 16 different trainers. There we go.... lots of variety and competition and I know what I would rather have. Having a few bets today: Bet365 Gold Cup: Rock the Kasbah 12/1 each way 5 places. Finished 6th last year and goes well fresh. The Hobbs team are in form now and I can see this one running a big race on better ground with cheekpieces fitted. Royal Vacation 33/1 each way 5 places. Cant resist an each way play on this fella. Has ability having won the Kauto Star Novices chase a few seasons back and the return to fences after a couple of runs over hurdles could work. Will love the better ground and could run in to a place. Leicester 2.45pm - Lahore 11/2 each way 3 places. Clive Cox's only runner today by looks of things and interesting as the horse has an entry in the Lockinge Stakes later in the year. Has won on soft so the ground shouldn't be a problem today and hopefully trainer has got him fit to do himself justice. Last run finished about 4 lengths behind Jallota who is now a non runner. Good luck all....
Mullins and Elliott have amassed more in prize money than the remainder of the top 20 Irish trainers put together. Whilst Mullins has had a stellar week to retain his trainers title anyone who thinks that sort of monetary share will sustain Irish racing long term must be a little bit puddled imo. If you contrast that with the U.K. You only have to go marginally past 5th place to equal the trainer's returns of the top 2, Henderson and Nicholls. Granted there is far more gash racing which the lower tier trainers can target. Mullins and Elliott fill 6th and 7th position in the UK list ahead of many high profile UK trainers (King, Hobbs, Fry, McCain)
Mullins may have 14 runners in that race but I'm taking the JP horse Dream Berry to finish in front of all of them @ 10/1. Eye catching run lto at Cheltenham when given too much to do, good form at this track and it would appear that the owner has had a sly tenner ew judging by the way the price has contracted. The only negative is Geraghty hasn't picked it but then he's not been in the winners enclosure all week.
Over at Sandown favourites have a terrible record in the Bet365 Gold Cup so a couple of outsiders will carry my ew cash. Domesday Book @ 50/1. Effectively running of the same mark as when last seen winning at the 2017 Cheltenham festival. Fitness has to be taken on trust but I'd see little point in having the best horse in your yard makes his seasonal debut on the last day of the season if not ready to do himself justice. The other one is Relentless Dreamer @ 33/1. The truly luverly Rebecca Curtis. Nothing further to add . Good luck everyone.
Gorgeous card at Sandown today BUT the mixed card in the old days was my favourite day’s racing of the year. Not all change is good I’m afraid.
I see that the toys are well and truly out of the pram about the Punchestown Mullins/Elliott bookiefest... the bookies might have to wait and see if Ballydoyle has half a dozen in the Derby before they next get it so easy. I have had six tips from someone with a connection to this yard: one was a newcomer that finished stone last at Newbury and three were seasonal debut three years olds (two favourites won). Today, I am told FRANK BRIDGE in the Ripon 2:20. Curiously, no word about the yard’s other runner on the card, the favourite in the 4:35.
Anyone who says the situation in Ireland is good is talking absolute ****e. Mullins ran a gang of top 2 milers the other day to hoover up prizemoney for a title nobody that isnt involved in cares about, and now we have Altior at 1/5 against no one. Thats jump racing in a nutshell.
Boris while you are on I just wanted to say thanks for that Dubai Racing stream you posted for RUK - absolutely mustard You got anything similar for ATR?
And your 2000 Gns bet is beginning to look very shrewd Joe. One single bet could take you straight to the top of the POTY comp.
No ive got atr on tv so never looked for a stream, that dubai racing one often switches to atr for races but think its only for evening racing
Shrewd bets dont always get paid out, well see what happens. Still a week to get there on the day and then needs to run a massive career best, I think hes going to be the best horse in the race long term anyway.
5.00 punch woods well 28/1 masive price told it will go well today very well good luck if you play and thoughts welcome..
