I read this on nights after the game. Couldn't be arsed commenting on it on their website as I don't have an account and, well it's the Express - just one level up from the Sun. I well remember '89 and the week after the 'Fans boke down the gates' initial slur had been proved false, and only the Sun (and the Star, somewhat) were still holding onto it. It still didn't stop Charles Moore, then a columnist on the Express, writing a 'Self-pity City' article that somehow linked Hillsborough to the then dockers' strike.

It'll never end - there's thirty years (and more) ignorant prejudice and confirmation bias stored up there in some people - they love to hate, and they need their sustenance.

 

Yeah, even though the bastards that perpetrated the evil myth are now dead or on the verge of being so they've brainwashed enough morons over the years to keep the fires of hate towards LFC and the City fanned for generations to come.

 

There's also a large dose from them of keeping the scousers in their place. It's designed to make it harder to move on if people keep saying 'ah yes but remember when you did this'.

 

Incredible also in both those articles that neither the Express nor the Italians make any reference to their fans behaviour after the '84 final. Our fans were herded into a car park in Rome and openly attacked by their fans whilst the Rome police looked on - one 15 year old even had his face slashed whilst being held in a headlock by the police, and his mate was arrested for protesting: not the attacker. They even threw back the Liverpool fans into the car park who had the temerity to climb over the mesh fence to get away. And to cap it off, once the coach drivers had been paid enough bribe money to take the Liverpool fans back to their hotels the police then gave an escort to - the Roma thugs on their scooters who were following the coach convoy. And when they got back to the hotels, many locked them out and left them on the streets to the mercy of the scooter thugs still roaming the city.

The irony of all this is that though it was barely reported at all in England outside of the Post and the Echo, the Italian press reported it extensively. ****ing Express.

Why would you even allow 1000 'dangerous' fans into the country?

Merseyside police are liaising with the Rome police and are the only possible source for that sort of information, but it's just bollocks and why the **** Merseyside Police would associate themselves with a shower of proven corrupted and violent shower of rate is beyond belief, the police over their are as bad as the ultras.

This is the kind of **** that's drip fed to Roma's hooligans that acts like a call to arms, it's also the kind of **** that makes any LFC fan spotted in Rome before or after the game to be seen as an opposing Ultra and so a legitimate target by them.

 

Merseyside police have a duty to do this and police the thing.

The thing is

a) if there are 1000 hooligans... well they should not have tickets should they? how can they have tickets.

b) they should be stopped at airports.

the REALITY is this is propaganda put out pre event to excuse roma hooligans actions.

EVERY single lfc fan should have the same mentality going to this game

don't give them an excuse
don't be drinking anywhere in rome
don't be caught alone
video EVERYTHING

If i were going to this game i would be arriving on the day on a plane, wanting that "official Shuttle" to the ground from airport. I would be sans colours and videoing say on aisle in bus away from windows and i would want to go straight into ground into away end as soon as i arrive there. I'd want shuttle back to whereever after game as theres prob no flight til morning.

what they are in effect saying is shouting that they will be out there with their buddies beating up any and all LFC fans they can find. they have said a full 20% of LFC fans can expect to be considered hooligans therefore all LFC fans seen will be treated as such.

My view is VIDEO EVERYTHING and make sure these lot get theirs.
