I'd say that our next manager has a tougher task. Wenger inherited a very good solid team which he moulded into a modern force. Our current team has defensive and midfielding problems which the team of yesteryear didn't have. I'd take it further and throw in our attack. We may have some fine attacking players, but we still haven't clicked as an attacking force yet. There is a significant rebuilding process that needs to occur, which wasn't necessary when Wenger took over.
1) The club have agreed a deal with a manager. I can not believe he has resigned but they have not got a replacement yet. They are just waiting til the end of the season to announce it. As the transfer window ends before the season starts and it is a world cup transfer stuff has to be done early...no one will sign if they do not know who the manager is do not having one in place would be mental. 2) I really hope it is Brendan Rodgers.
God I hope not. I think there would be little to no improvement under Rodgers. He's no better than an ageing Senile version of Wenger. Im liking the idea of Luis Enrique teaming up with Raul Sanhelli again. But I also would take: Allegri, Simeone, Anchelotti, Loew or Jardim.
Ancelotti has thrown his hat into the ring so if we end up with some stupid **** like Brendan then the board need to be sacked. We can clearly attract a top manager so let's do it and not piss about. We need a recognised name and big team manager just for a couple of years to settle the nerves post Wenger. Then we can be bolder in looking at an up and coming manager if that is what the club wants to try.
Worth noting we have a slight problems. A big IF but if we finish below Burnley then we will have to qualify for the Europa league via a playoff And this being a WC year, there is even less time than usual to prepare for the new season. And we still have to buy and sell players, get a new coach in and get everything set up for the new season. It really makes sense to try and get the job of finding a new coach over and done with as quickly as possible or we risk entering the new season under a cloud again.
Arsenal is a very desirable club to come to. Stability, resources and large fanbase will attract the best managers.
Part of me thinks they've either got someone or close to getting someone. Technically we should have a large pick of the best managers if they are available so there really is no excuse to end up with Rodgers.
Enrique would be a good choice. If he chooses us. If he is not after money, the choice between AFC and Abramovich is pretty simple. He can certainly instil some steel in our team, he was a tough player. And his attacking style suits AFC to a T. The guy is a bit mental, but who isn't. The more I think about it the more exiting it looks. I bet Raúl Sanllehí is already talking to him.
1. AFC has so much respect for Wenger, they would not dare to start negotiating behind his back. There are two options: 1) The decision was made some time ago, when Kroenke sent his son in February to London for 3 months (fact-finding mission they said, my a**) . Wenger agreed to go and some negotiations started with his consent. 2) Negotiations started just now. 2 Do not worry Rogers is incompatible with AFC current corporate culture. He has no chance in hell to manage The Arsenal. Its not just that he is British, it is a class thing. I may be wrong but I can not possibly see it.
remembercolinlee is not an Arsenal fan. He wants Rogers because he thinks he will be bad. I don't think many Arsenal fans want Rogers.
so it looks like the leading candidates according to skysports are: Arteta - wanted by Gazidis Luis Enrique wanted by Sanllehi Nagelsmann or Tedesco wanted by Mislintat also mentioned: "At this early stage, both Brendan Rodgers and Rafa Benitez are not thought to be strong candidates." Arteta would NOT be a good choice IMO, I think this is too big a job for him at this stage. We need someone to steer the ship in the right direction, only then can we start thinking about gambling with people like Arteta. Unfortunate that neither Allegri nor Simeone seem to be realistic candidates at this time...
I think there's a possibility that we could bring in Arteta or Vieira as a no2, but I don't think the club would take the risk in appointing either of them as manager. My no1 choice would be Allegri, but there doesn't seem to be any rumours linking him. Although he has said he'd like to manage in England and he's learning English, just hope he's not being lined up for Chelsea. As mentioned though, Ancelotti has already thrown his hat into the ring, so he's the bar that we should be measuring this by. He's a really decent coach, so if we can get him, then the only candidates we should be aiming for are Ancelotti, Allegri, Simeone, Enrique and possibly as an outside chance, Jardim.
Could it be too little to late for Carlo Ancelotti? Or do you think he will pie off Italy and choose the Gunners... he seemed to show interest? I think it'd be pretty cool if he did tbh!
If reports are true about the new manager having a transfer budget of 50M then its not a manager Gazidis is looking for its a magician.
Another interesting option http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ortlist-as-possible-arsene-wenger-replacement
Sigh...I just wish we would go for a proven top class manager. It’s not all that often we change managers so you would think we would just choose someone everyone wants... It looks like we will end up with arteta or some random German manager
