An excellent MFW article and as for the General's reply - http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...permitted-time-to-embed-this-brave-new-world/ Edit (this MUST please you FML - it certainly pleases me!!) - Marley Watkins is again being touted with a close season move to the Canaries’ Championship rivals Bristol City. http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...ted-with-bristol-city-transfer-move-1-5484706
So Wenger is leaving at end of the season. A truly great manager and Arsenal will never see the same success again. Treated badly by certain supporters recentily but IMO 2nd only to Fergie as Premier all time managers. Can't we afford him???
The trouble is he hasn't even looked like winning the league for a number of years, it's like telling the Binners they should be happy having never left the championship for 15 years. He hasn't one the league for so many years inspite of a number of expensive signings and maintaining squads that might have done better. He has never sorted their soft underbelly since the loss of GG rock like defence. When a board won't do anything when there is obvious stagnation and laterly decline, the fans can respond in a number of ways, but voiciferous displeasure is the easiest and often most understandable way. Arsenal should be challenging for the title, the stadium is paid off, they can buy stars like Ozil. I think it's absolutely the right thing for Arsenal and if anything 2-5 years too late. Great and innovative manager as he was, he should have been gone before now. Bah!
To compare what Wenger did at Arsenal to what has happened at Portman Rd is absolute tosh. Wenger is 2nd most successful manager in the Prem. Only Fergie has a better record .57% win ratio,3 Prem titles,7 FA cups,a full season undefeated. Good attractive football. Time will tell if he will be missed, but I for one am happy to say he was and still is a great manager. If you want rubbish managers think of Moyes,Allardyce, etc
Really? Given relative expectations and budgets, I think it's a very fair comparison. Arsenal have had and will continue to have one of the biggest matchday incomes, they buy players and pay wages commensurate with top four, only they never win, not even when all the usual suspects blew up and Leicester won. As I said, he was a great and innovative manager and then what? no titles or even that close so like Ipshit it's been 15 odd years since he won a title/promotion, sorry not good enough, in my book. Nor in many gooners eyes too. Ipshit were in the PL even finishing 3rd with Burley before their current plight, some exceptional times before a decade plus of stagnation, even decline. I see parallels. Bah!
Match day income is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things to a PL / top 6 club, TV money, Champions League involvement & merchandising are what really counts
For several years while the Emirates was being built, they spent relatively little, the effects of which have been felt for several seasons. But that parsimony should now be a thing of the past. They really need to catch up this summer, .
Salah. Player of the season. Good. I wanted him to win. He has been unplayable. I know De Bruyne has been class. Bust Salah has done the same, but with loads of goals and broken records.
I have to agree FML and De Bruyne was most likely the runner up. Some of Salah's goals have been brilliant. Edit - So Pep thinks De Bruyne should have won!!!!! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43860354
Sad to see Wenger resign, but really he should have stepped down after one of the recent FA Cup wins. I hear he was kind of forced. They were nearing sacking him, but gave him the chance to say it was on his own terms. Which is think makes sense as he has always said "I see my contracts out" but he's leaving a Season early. I think the situation was in-recoverable. Has been going down hill for a few years now. I really, really hope they will the Euro cup. Not only because I support all English teams in Europe, but also, he cant go out like this! He needs a big send off!
So our Under 23s beat Villa Under 23s 1-0, with Fonkeu scoring the winner. Edit - looks like I won't be going for my last chance to see JM play in yellow and green, as there are no spare seats!! #drat That will teach me for leaving it so late.
And Guardiola and Martinez say that De Bruyne should have won PFA!!! Edit - I AM going to the CR on Saturday!!!! #whatmatesarefor
De Bruyne is one of my favorite players but it would have been a travesty if Salah had not won the award.
One of Salah's biggest attributes, is that he looks up to see if one of his teammates is in a better position to score.
