Yes it's good value but if Man U have let him go for that much the clearly didn't want him. So he would have been a free agent in the Summer when his contract is up. I know if they offered him a contract they would be due compensation by a club that signed him as he is under 24. However If they offered him a contract he could sign it though and they don't seem to want that. So what has the ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã300k done? Just made sure nobody else got him on a free in the summer? Surely we could have just agreed that with Stewart. I suppose it frees up a loan space too which may or may not be crucial in the next few weeks.
More or less just to stop anyone else signing him. ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã300k is a nominal sum in this league though so I won't be losing any sleep over it. Sensible piece of business.
It would have been our record transfer a few seasons ago! I thought there must be a reason I hadn't thought of as I'm sure you can just come to an arrangement with the player unofficially so he signs in the summer. Maybe if Man U thought this was happening they would offer a contract so we had to pay compensation which could be more than the ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã300k. I don't have a problem with it just wondered what might be the full reason for doing it now.
He might have a storming second half of the season and attract interest from some Prem clubs, if he does it'll be us demanding a big fee not Man Utd.
Doesn't this equate to the same amount as Pearson mentioned we're saving on the Bullard deal? In which case it would be quite a decent and sensible bit of business. Unfortunately this is professional footballers we're talking about and verbal or gentleman's agreements are worth about as much as the paper they're written on. If we didn't tie him into a deal now and he had a storming second half of the season then there'd be all sorts of clubs sniffing around him, or even Man U reconsidering their options and offering him a contract.
Any club signing Stewart in the summer would still have had to pay compensation to Man United, due to his age and the time he's been at their youth academy. We've just paid it now, to avoid anyone else getting in there.
Even if they let his contact expire without offering a new one? That doesn't seem fair on the player who could end up with no contract an no club able to afford to take him.
Good bit of business. He's only 19 is'nt he? Plenty of time to improve and hopefully will get another chance up front as that is clearly his best position
I'd be very surprised if Stewart's value in a year or so isn't at least double ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã300k.. AP is making shrewd investments don't you worry.. don't forget he's only 19, his best is still to come and let's hope his best is in black n amber
I don't think Gentlemens agreements are written on paper, Anyway imo ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã300.000 is **** all for a player with bags of potential that's been trained at Man u.
When you think that 300K is the equivalent of 7.5 days wages to Wayne Rooney you know the worlds gone mad.
